Stop cleaning up after him and see if he can lift a finger to do it himself.

But really... we marry them and we can't change them, and after 28 years, do you really think you are going to change him now?

lol - you can't.

You married him knowing that about him...it's been 28 years. 28 years of reinforcement that it's okay to act like that. No way will you ever change him.

Think of his slobness as being a fact of life....can't change it, might as well accept it and stop complaining.

Just stop cleaning up after him. My husband used to do the same thing to me untill I left to go back home I came back and the house was clean b/c he got tired of living in nasty filth. I would tell him that he needs to start helpin around the house. I hate it when guys think that the women has to do all the damn house work.

Can you confine his mess to one room only?

I am messy too, the arrangement with my wife was for me to have a tiny room that no one else enters, in exchange, I help picking up the rest of the house. My wife wishes I had my den tidy, but order is just a shut door away.

Hope it helps.

You have to talk to him about it, don't be subtle, tell him it bothers you. Then tell him you're going to stop picking up after him. If that doesn't fix him and it doesn't bother him, there's nothing else you can really do except talk to him again and ask him to help you out a little bit.

Put all his crap in one big pile .... in his favorite palce in the house..... and leave it there. who cares if you run out of clean dishes... keep one of each thing clean 4 yourself.... he'll have no choice but to clean up after himself. Just remember not to invite company over for a while, at least not your friends. Don't forget to put that smelly sock inside his pillowcase for that special effect!

Only clean and pick up if he helps. As soon as he stops helping, you need to also stop. Eventually he'll figure it out.
