I am 35 weeks pregnant with my first child. I think my mucucs plug fell out last night. It was all bloody and looked like cottage cheese. I tried to call my doctor but she is out of the office today and Friday. They said that they would try to contact a mid-wife. I called around 11:00am. I still have not heard from them and it is almost 3:00pm. What should I do? I started to feel some pain and pressure around noon, but it went away and I have not felt it since. I am nervous as to how my baby's health will be. I am already on matirnity leave. I just want my baby to be healthy. Can you give me some advice on what I should do? Am I going into labour. And will my baby be premature.
Thank You! No rude answers please.

I am really scared. My sister had twins last year but she lives in another state and I can't have her come and help me. I live in Florida and my sister is in New York.

If you can't get hold of your doctor, go to the hospital. Have them check you out. If you've lost your mucus plug, you need to be looked at.

Take a deep breath and try to relax. Chances are you will be going into labour within 48 hours, but try not to stress. Some women lose their plug and don't go into labour for another week or two.

Right now the best thing you can do is try to calm down and get some sleep (easier said than done, I know). If you feel contractions (they feel like very strong menstrual cramps or very intense braxton hicks), write down the time and duration of each one. Do you have any rectal pressure? Intense rectal pressure could also indicate the start of labour.

At 35 weeks, there shouldn't be many complications with your baby's health. His/her major organs are all well developed by this time. If the baby does come early, it will probably be a little on the small side and the doctor's will most likely want to keep a close eye on him/her for precaution.

You didn't mention if you have a partner? Is someone there with you? If you are alone, please DO NOT take a bath and when you shower make it brief. Warm baths/showers can encourage contractions because of their relaxing effect on your stomach muscles.

As I mentioned the best thing to do right now is calm down and record any "contractions" you may have. Once they get close together (about 5-10 minutes apart) call the hospital and they will tell you whether or not you should be coming in. If you don't have someone to drive you, they will send an ambulance. Please do not drive yourself to the hospital!

Good luck sweetie! I know this is scary right now, but everything will be okay, just keep the phone close by.

The loss of the mucus plug is a good sign. Most women deliver in the few days following. Your focus should be on two things:
1. Timing of contractions( if you have any). Go to the hospital if they are about 5 minutes apart and getting stronger and closer. If they subside, it is not quite time.
2. Waters breaking. If they do, go to the hospital.

Your body is doing exactly what it's supposed to do. Relax....sit down have a small snack or a beverage. You won't be eating during the last stages of labor, so now is the time! Try to get some rest too.... you need your energy.

If you are really that freaked out I would go to the hospital. They can help when your regular doctor isn't available. Or I would try to lay down (bed rest), until you get a call back. Stressing out won't help anything and it might actually cause you to go into labor. In the mean time.

Here is an article about mucus plugs: http://www.drspock.com/article/0,1510,5901,00.html

For more information just go to Google and type in "Pregnancy Mucus Plug" into the search. A bunch of stuff will pop up.

Chill, breathe deep. 35 weeks is ok for the baby to come. Get to the hospital if you can. Or just put down some towels squat and get it over with. Women had babies for eons before the white coats took over. Childbirth is normal and natural, not a medical problem. Your biggest problem is your fear. Remember that women do this every day and most of them are just fine.

You can lose your mucus plug without going into labor. Has your water broke? If it has go to the ER. If not wait for contractions. You can lose your mucus plug a few weeks before the babies r born. I lost mine at 35 weeks also, didnt have him until my due date. Wait until your contractions r 5-6 mins apart for more than an hour. It has to be consistent, or until your water brakes. Good luck, and congrats!

some women do lose their plug before labor, ibut if you feel pressure you should go to the hospital, i had a healthy baby girl at 36 weeks, it all depends on the size of the baby and the maturity of the lungs, the hospitals have meds to help the babys lungs mature faster in that case

You should really go to the emergency room at the nearest hospital. Just to make sure everything's ok. I mean you don't want to take any chances.Good luck with the bundle of joy!

Just because you passed your mucous plug does not mean that you are going into labor. I passed mine 2 weeks before having my son. If you worry to much, you might cause contractions. Take it easy sweetie. You will be fine.
