I use Firefox to browse with Mcafee internet security suite 2006. Could anyone advise on a free top anti spyware/adware download that can be set up very easily to scan on a weekly basis on it's own and I would rather not use spybot or lavasoft adaware......any ideas?

I used to recommend Adaware, then it was Spyware Nuker (I still love the guys that wrote that software), but today, I can't recommend anything other that Microsoft Windows Defender.

Microsoft released this software about a year ago and called it the Anti-Spyware Beta. It has recently changed names to Windows Defender. It's free, although I've heard rumors that they might start charging for it at some point.

You can download it here...

It's in it's 2nd beta and is rock solid stable. It works very well. I haven't had a spyware infection problem since I've been running it.

You could also try here. One of my Spyware Article Sites...

This is a personal thing...
1 prefers this program, while others prefer that program.

I think that the Microsoft spyware programm is a good program.
WindowsDefender (go to microsoft.com).

Yet I can also believe why others prefer adaware. Personally I dislike that program.

2 excellent spyware programs that meet your criteria are 1)ewido...avalible from http://www.ewido.net/en/...and windows defender...avalible from http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx.
these are two highly rated programs and are both compatible with each other, and can both be set to scan at certain times, allthough windows defender is recommended to be set at a daily scan, but this can be changed
its a shame you cannot use spy-bot as this is probally the best anti-spyware program avalible
good luck
