$7-$9 an hour depending on the cost of living in that area.
Keep in mind it's not just the bottom wages. I made $9 an hour with a Bachelor's Degree when I first got out of college in 2001.
CEO's make about 431 times what the average worker does in the US right now. Before the 90's it was only about 100 times, (which was still far greater than most CEOs in europe. Keep in mind some of these salaries were paid while the company lost millions in shareholder value.
College expenses are growing at something like 25% per year, yet wages increased maybe 1%.
Greed is out of hand in this country. Next time you get crappy service from someone making $5.25 an hour, consider why they stopped giving a ****.

Why not make it 18 an hour? What exactly will raising the minimum wage do if its raised a dollar or two? The people that are making that wage will still be poor and the raise they will get will be eaten up by the increase in cost of the products we will buy. I don't understand how a person would make minimum wage. If you look in your local paper under general help wanted, they all pay at least 8.50-11.00 per hour. You would have to be working some McJob to make the minimum.

There should be no minimum wage. A wage should only be determined by who can provide a service and how valuable that service is.
A brain surgeon makes 6 figures and rightly so. There are probably only 1000 +/- 100 people in the U.S. that can do this.
A cashier at a grocery store or superstore makes roughly $8.00 per hour because millions of people are qualified to do this work.
Controlling wages is a mainstay of Socialism. That type of govt. has never done well at any level for any country. It only lasted for the Soviets because they poured all their resources into their military.
A job is a VOLUNTARY CONTRACT between you and your employer to do what is asked of you for the current value of your services. Thereby, the employer reserves the right to NOT PAY you (aka fire, let go) if your services are no longer needed.

I make $8 an hour. If I did not live at home, I would not be able to support myself. Problem is, when they raise the minimum wage, prices of goods goes up, so it's a vicious cycle. If they really want to help the people on the bottom of the pay scale, they need to raise the wages and put a freeze on raising prices of the goods we buy. Luxury items can continue to go up, but necessities like food clothing and decent housing should remain frozen.

i have no idea what the appropriate dollar figure should be but i do know it should be enough to live on.
the cost of products and services are going up despite no increases in the minimum wage. i'd like to know where all the extra money is going if not to pay the people who make the product or provide the service. without those employees companies would not be in business at all. owners and upper management are not expecting themselves to live on minimum wage. maybe they should pay themselves the highest wage they're willing to pay their employees and divide the rest between everyone in the company. it's a real shame to see a business charge more than their own employees can afford to pay.

honestly $9-$10 dollars, there is no way that we can live off what it is right now. The price of everything has gone up except for the minimum wage. Keep your rich rich and your poor poor. SOB's

I definently think it should be at least 9.. an hour because honestly, there are people who can't get jobs unless they are minimum wage like take me for instance...since i am young, and trying to pay for my school and i am having troubles finding a job, and when i do find one, its minimum wage

Minimum wage depends on the cost of living in your state. In NC it just went from 5.15 to 6.15. But with gas so high now, it should be at least 7.

$0. It's simple... why force companies to pay someone more than they deserve to do a job. If someone doesn't like the payment they are getting then a) get a better education b) find someone in the industry willing to pay more. I think letting companies compete for good work by pay is great but why have a minimum.

There is no set figure in my mind. A "living wage" is a fantacy. As the population earns more, simple economics tell us the cost of living will go up.
