Spain has been a rich country from its origins, mixing in with a strong sense of both Catholic and Muslim influences that have made a truly unique place. In its history it has seen both bloody warfare and explosions of math, science, art, and culture that have rippled throughout the world.

Sadly, Spain kind of kicked itself in the nuts with "in 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue..." Its exploitation of foreign resources led to the inflation of its economy past the point of needing a true industry, and when the barrel fell out through the lowering value of gold, they were left high and dry following the mushing of their armada against hurricane and the shores of England. Too bad. They lost their true hold as a world force at that point.

Still, the old traditions that exist are still very much a part of Spain, and it is significant cultural force none the less. As a political and military power though, it's kind of a paper tiger.

I am very sad to say that I think Spain is a dead country. The worst traits of the Americans have become what defines the Spaniards rather than the rich civilization they once had. It breaks my heart to see them throw it away.

What will they do when Spain is once again a Muslim country?

Driving through the center of it on the way to Madrid, it reminded me of Nevada, specifically the Sierra Nevadas.
The only real difference was, that whereas Nevada is totally wild and unspoiled, all the hill and mountain sides in Spain showed that people had planted things there over time.
