I bouth a dvdrom for my computer to record on a blank dvd, but it want record on a dvd-r.

The drive has to be DVD-R compatible. You need a program to actaully burn the dvd (unless you want to it to be a data dvd, you can use windows for that).

A DvD-R can't have anything recorded to it unless you have a DvD-RW drive. The RW means re-writable, so, if the drive on your computer says DvD-ROM this means that it can only read (playback, open) DvD-R or DvD-RW disks, but cannot burn (write) to them.

bad news- a dvd-rom is a 'dvd READ ONLY MEMORY' what you want is a dvd-rw: that's read and write. on the disk side of the equation, a dvd-r is a one time write onto type; the dvd-rw is 're-writable' so you can record again and again on the same disk. same goes for the cd

I think you need a software program to burn dvd's. I know dvd shrink is good and you can download that off the internet for free.

are you sure the dvd drive is compatable with dvd-r...mine only works with dvd+r

there are 2 formats of disk...+ and -

A blank DVD *is* a DVD-R .. just put it in and burn.
