t's the symbol for Om, or Aum -- and is vital important part of Hindu religion, dealing with aspects of creation.
I tried to import pics, but nothing worked, lol -- but check out these sites. the first one explains it all in a nutshell, and you can always use wikipedia as a springboard to get more info if you want it.
