My budget is below $700. I am deploying with the navy soon, and need something powerful enough to run WINXP SP2, play a DVD, and must have LAN and WLAN. Anybody know about some good discounts?

Dell is the best deals...
And instead of going to their site to search for good deals, just use this site -
www.deals2buy.com which looks for all the deals and lists them here...

Here is one exactly matching your criteria... even better than what you need and all within $700...

http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?CS=19&kc=07769&oc=D80711F

But if you wait and look at www.deals2buy.com frequently everyday over couple of days, you'll probably find a better deal than this one...

I got mine recently for $550 from Dell after I looked at the deal from this site... the laptop that I got is 15.4 inch Intel centrino with DVD write also.... .
... the one mentioned above is newer operating system...CORE DUO..... which is better .... so even this one looks like a good deal......

EBAY is NOT always the best deal... believe me... even I used to think that ebay would be the best place to buy stuff..... but I have researched the bargain price a lot and have found that ebay has many times higher prices for stuff which we can get at good deals outside.... when people are looking at ebay, then only compare with other listings on ebay and so don't realize that there may be better deals outside.....

Goto your local Apple Store and present your ids and ask for your discounts, dont buy there Applecare just yet. Please keep in mind this are awesome machine with built in lan, wlan, and bluetooth. Dvd-rom/cd-rw. Very, very fast for laptops and much better then Dells which i have owned before they work great for about 4 months. Also if you or anyone in the family is a student take them and their ID with you for even more discounts. Good Luck and I hope you buy an Apple laptop.

All I can tell you is this is the best time of year to buy one. All are having back to school sales. You won't find them any cheaper than they are now.
