She says that if I leave her, she will take me for every penny that I have and then some. What should I do? I am miserable but I do not want to be penniless.

If you divorce her first you will leave her pennyless! Whoever files for divorce first gets like 70% of everything and since most women file for divorce first a myth has formed.

Don't let that bi*ch scare you, go for it!

My ex of 31 yrs did the same for a 21 year younger female and is in the same situation, wants to come back or get out of it. He can get out of it but won't be able to come back here, because for what he did there's no reason for taking him back. On the other hand, why don't these type things surface in a guy's mind before he actually breaks a woman's heart? Just like nobody could keep you from making the mistake of leaving, then it's your decision to stay or be without. He's in your situation now also.

If you haven't been with this new woman for awhile then she won't take every penny you have. If you have a child with her then she can have 20% of you net for the first child..and extra 5% for a second. Other than that she can't get much legally. Don't be a douche...get to a lawyer to find out the facts. Don't cry in your beer to strangers on the internet who don't know anything about the law.

I am hearing alot of regret from you and is as it should be, but we are all human and making bad choices is something that we are all prone to do on occasion. I do not like to hear that your choices have caused someone pain but that is also part of life. As far as getting out of this relationship without consequences I would suggest you consult an atty. File for divorce then change the date of the court hearing to sooner than she knows about so she won't show up. You will automatically be granted your petition. But a word of caution, take your choices seriously so as to not cause pain for others in the future.

Well, the only person you can blame is YOU. What a dumbass to leave your wife of 13 years. And now look at you. You brought this misery on yourself.
My husband almost left me for a girl that was just playing him to the core, but he couldn't see it until the last minute when he got an apartment for them, and he was ready to move in with her, only she used his *** and left him for some other guy and they took off to California. (we are in Texas) I was so laughing at him for being such a stupid ***. Just like you. You never know a good thing until it's gone. Now you have to live with your mystake. So, are you looking for sympathy here? Answers? What? Cause I sure don't feel bad your sorry *** decisions...I think you got just what you wanted.

You left your gal of 13 years for another woman? Easy to say you love her now as the new one has you in a stranglehold. Besides, if you truly loved #1 you wouldn't have left her and you wouldn't worry about the money issue.

See a lawyer.
I don't know what state you live in, but your not always entitled to half.
Even if she does leave you penniless, I'd have to say it be worth it.
I paid my ex $2400 so that he would sign a quit claim deed to my house. I'd have paid more to get rid of him quicker, if I'd had it. Of course my circumstances were different than yours, and yeah, I'm sort of penniless, but I'm FREE!

The grass may be greener on the other side but the lawn still needs mowing.

You have to decide whether you want to stay with someone who makes you miserable or leave and fight for what is yours to keep.

call a divorce lawyer. This woman is threatening you and she may TRY to take you for everything, but she can't if she has no case. And I would consider opening up a personal bank account she has no access to and transferring what is rightfully yours in there before she starts stealing from your bank account.
