hris Paul. I know that's the easy answer to give, but hear me out. At the NBA level, athleticism gives a player a huge advantage. Paul is MUCH more athletic than Williams, who might be a little bigger, but is a lot slower. Paul has exhibited a better basketball IQ and shows more of a complete game. Also, he fits more into a prototype point guard role, whereas it's still questionable whether or not Williams can run a team. That will give him less time to develop into a star as he'll simply be trying to develop into a position

Chris Paul, barring any injuries.

My belief is that Paul will continue to mature into one of the great point guards to ever play the game. He's exceptionally quick, has a superb outside shot but most importantly, he is a pass-first point guard and a truly natural point guard.

Deron Williams should turn into a very solid player but may never be able to crack an All Star team. He's not a natural point guard and he doesn't have Paul's ability to make others around him great. Chris Paul is destined for greatness.

Chris Paul is already better and will continue to be better than Deron Williams for the rest of their respective careers.

Chris Paul. There is no comparison. Chris Paul is almost on Steve Nash level as a point guard. Deron Williams stinks, you must be related to him or something.

SALT LAKE CITY -- Dee Brown played host to Deron Williams once. Brown was the local kid, the McDonald's All-American making room for the other guy, the point guard who would be his running mate at Illinois and eventually one of his closest friends.

Now the roles are reversed. Williams is showing Brown the ropes, schooling him on life in the NBA and hoping his employer will find a way to make room on the roster for his college partner in a crowded backcourt rotation.

Amid all the changes they have gone through the past four years, the one bond that brought Brown and Williams together as teenagers is the same that has brought them together now.

Brown is the second-round draft pick trying to make the Utah Jazz roster. The incumbent starter for the Jazz is none other than Williams, the No. 3 overall pick in last summer's NBA Draft, and one of the game's promising young talents at the position.

The chance of Williams and Brown revisiting the magic that led Illinois to the NCAA title game two years ago is a long shot. But the chance of them sharing the same locker room is a distinct possibility, and one Brown thought long and hard about on draft night last month when he slipped out of the first round and to the Jazz with the 46th pick.

"I can't lie," Brown said between summer league games with the Jazz at the Rocky Mountain Revue, "I was shocked to fall that low. I really felt like the body of work I built during college would put me in the first round. But once that didn't happen and I thought about all the places I could end up, this was obviously a natural fit."

A perfect one for a player looking for a friendly face during such uncertain times, Brown's path to a guaranteed roster spot goes through the summer league, then veterans camp in October.

Brown is lightning quick, 6 feet and 185 pounds, and he's the ideal change of pace to Williams, a shifty 6-3, 210-pounder who blossomed in the second half of his rookie season to assume a leadership role for the Jazz.

Williams dazzled the home crowd for two games here. That's all the Jazz coaches needed to see of him before turning things over to Brown, who'll handle the starting duties for the final four games of the Revue.

"Dee's more than capable of handling things," Williams said. "I'm still upset he didn't get picked in the first round. I think he's that type of player, that type of talent and that type of guy. Now that I'm out of the way, so to speak, he'll get a chance to show everybody.

"There's a lot more that he can do that people (here) just haven't seen yet."

This isn't the first time Williams and Brown have parted ways prematurely. Weeks after leading Illinois to the NCAA title game, an emotionally crushing 75-70 loss to North Carolina after spending nearly the entire season ranked No. 1, both juniors declared for the NBA Draft.

But while Williams joined Chris Paul and Raymond Felton as the top point guard talents in the 2005 draft class, Brown broke his foot on the opening day of the pre-draft camp and was forced to return to Champaign for his senior season.
