I have noticed that the low end top freezer models usually do not have a light, but the higher end = more expensive one usually do. I think this is because the freezer compartment on the high end models is so much larger you need the light to see all the stuff you have put in there and forgotten :-)

Generally lights are not put into freezers for 2 reasons:
1.) the sudden change in temperature of the ligh bulb, going from off to on is too stressful on the bulb, so they don't last long

2.) The heat output from the bulb that must now be cooled by the freezer makes them less efficient.

My last two have had a light in the freezer. Your model may simply not be equipped with one.
