Well I betting he took an overdose of tylenol....but any OD that causes the organ damage you describe isnt very good...if his liver can survive it then he may make it but be on dialysis all his life....but if the liver doesnt do well and gets worse then Im sorry to say that he probably wont survive...if it was tylenol and the docs werent able to get a certain med into him due to the ingestion timeline his liver will completely fail and then end is very near...but if they did get that medication into him he has a little better chance of surviving...I have assisted in treating many types of OD's in the ER and tylenol is one of the worst...you dont die right away but days later in pain...the liver doesnt take kindly to tylenol or any other drug in mass quanitites...Im sorry to be so blunt but I dont think its right to pussyfoot around an issue as serious as death...if you have any other questions contact me....and I hope your cousin does pull thru this and be able to leave the hospital to tell his tale....

I'm guessing this was a major over dose? The chances are he'll be on Dialysis for a very long time, if not life. Ask the Doctors for more detailed advice. Hope he makes a good recovery! x

It depends on the form of OD, if it was a paracetamol based drug, it will depend on how much as the liver will not recover as it cannot break down paracetamol well, and damage is irreparable, with kidney failure to boot his other organs may fail,It's in the lap of the gods, the medical team will do all they can though so i wish him well.

My friend's nephew. He took an entire bottle of Tylenol. He was critical for a while, and was on the liver transplant list. BUT,they caught it in time and gave an antidote - which doesn't always work - and his liver healed itself.

The human body is a mysterious thing. Things that should kill people, they come thru fine and what look like minor things cripple or kill them.

I hope your cousin recovers fully or doesn't linger in pain. (Because anywhere in the middle is horrible for both him and the family.) Good luck!!!

Thats like asking how long a peice of string is.
It all depends how much damage is done,, every organ in the human body has the ability to heal except the teeth so there is ALWAYS hope.
I do hope he'll be ok.

Yes, the thing is that the longer he stays alive the greater the chance of a good recovery. Years from now you will be able to grow new organs etc, so don't worry. [Hard to say I know, but all the same ...].
