I think most people these days get married for all the wrong reasons, hence the high divorce rate. Here are the top wrong reasons for getting married:

1. Got pregnant
2. Permanent Sex Partner
3. Money
4. Green Card
5. To prove you're "grown up"

And some of the reasons marriage fails that could have been avoided:

1. Didn't make sure you had the same goals
2. Can't or don't want to adapt to different culture
3. Didn't make sure you both did or did not want children
4. Unrealistic expectations of what "marriage" should be
5. Got married due to pregnancy

I could go on, but you get the picture. Just because you feel all "in love" doesn't mean you're a good match or should get married. You'll note pregnancy is on both lists. Never use the life of a child to get what you think you want for today.

I did with my first marriage. I was young and wanted to get out of my abusive parents home. But, because I had been abused all my life, I didn't realize that I was jumping right into the same thing by marrying who I did!! It took me 20 long, miserable years, but I finally left him for good, divorced him, and got my self-esteem and self-worth. I then found someone that doesn't abuse me and doesn't believe in abuse at all!! I have never been happier in my life. This time, i plan to get married for the right reasons--love, honor, and respect!

Fifty to fifty three percent of US marriages end in divorce. So I would say there is a fifty/ fifty chance the answer is yes. Your grandparents didn't have such a problem because of the longer premarriage relationships. By the time they married, they pretty much knew what their true reasons were.

Yes....with my ex-husband.....wanted my son to grow up with both parents because my parents were divorced.

Nobody ever explained to me what a mistake i was making. Everyone just didn't like him. I learned the hard way.

I know someone that got married because she was pregnant and her mother talked her into it. It last only until the baby was born then he cheated and she left him.
