He's championed a lot of notable liberal causes, so let's assume he has a liberal Democratic platform a la Howard Dean. He has never held public office, but he's pretty smart and let's assume he'd win the debates with reasonably good answers and his superstar charisma.

I'm asking since the Republicans have had so much luck running actors and entertainers: Reagan, Ahnold, Ventura, Sonny Bono, the "Gopher" guy from Love Boat.

Besides, there was all that silly talk about "who would you rather have a beer with" stuff when the Dems put the highly-qualified but charisma-challenged Al Gore and John Kerry against GWB.

What about Tom Hanks?

Redford is an actor- so we know he's good at pretending to care about things he doesn't really care. we also know he's good at delivering lines in a way that makes you believe he thought of it himself.
What do you want in a President? Good looking figurehead - ala Kennedy. Or someone who's been in government a long time and knows how to negotiate, compromise and get things done?
Had Redford become the head of a studio or president of SAG like Reagan, I might be inclined to think he has what it takes to work in a bureauratic system. Sonny Bono started as a mayor (I recall). I respect the causes he champions, but if Redford was my President, I want him to represent me, not himself.
And I want to be sure that he would be able to make things happen. Charm and charisma is a good start, but business sense is a lot more valuable.
Therefore, at this point in time, I could not vote for him.

He QUIT school, he never graduated High School. He was a bum and an out of work artist before he got a job pretended to be other people.

Forrest Gump could beat Redford at a debate with half his halfwit brain tied behind his back.

Redford is a typical Hollywood hypocritical liberal. He touts enviromental causes, yet drives around in limos and uses SUV's. His ski area, Sundance is horrible. He has NO talent as an actor, really. Watch some of his movies, he is horrible. The Great Waldo Pepper shows his lack of "talent".

He was handsome 30 years ago, but now...........

How on earth could anyone even think he had any redeeming value? He makes a living by PRETENDING. I will never understand you people who put these ACTORVISTS on a pedestal. They are NOT that important and they are generally a stupid lot.

The man is an airhead dilettante (aka Limousine Liberal); so, to answer your question, no, I wouldn't vote for Robert Redford for President.

It would depend on who he's running against.

W? Sure. 'Course I'd vote for Mickey Mouse over
W at this point.

I don't think I'd have picked him over Clinton and
I'd be hard pressed to chose him over McCain.
Although I disagree with alot of McCain's ideas,
I find him to be both consistantly honorable
and eloquent. Redford has no such track record
(Redford has NO track record in politics).

Thats the problem with you libs. You think that these actors are actually the characters in their movies. This ain't the Sundance Kid you know!

Anyway, any mention of Howard Dean is political suicide.

No, we do not need any more actors acting like politicians. Our country is in such a mess, we need real scholars to help us out of our current disaster.

He is not smart, does not have depth and lacks character to be a president, but then again you probably liked Bubba when he was there.
