I gotta tell ya, after being in the workforce for a long, long time, you NEED to be scared! There can be some PRET-ty strange people in the ol' office! LOL.
I'm just kidding. People can be afraid of all types of things, tunnels, riding in an airplane, spiders, whatever. Your phobia is getting your first job. That's not so bad. Have you thought about talking to a counselor or therapist about it? They can offer you great insight!
Have you thought about what, specifically, scares you about having a job? Because, if it's the interview, we're all right there with you, hon. If the interview part scares you, picture the person interviewing you wearing a pair of really strange glasses, or a really ugly outfit, which they just may do for you anyway.
Just remember, interviewers may LOOK like they're on the ball, (they HAVE to look like that), but, on the inside, they're just as scared as you are! The only way to get over your fear is to face it. You'll be fine.

Everyone feels that way.
Are you scared of having a job, or applying for one?
If you're scared of having a job, just go out and apply for jobs, There's no harm in doing that, since you might not even be offered any of the jobs you apply for, and you don't have to accept them if they are offered. Don't worry about overcoming the fear of doing the job until you actually have an offer. You might find that just getting an offer boosts your confidence.
If you're scared of even applying, there's not much to do but just swallow your fear and apply, and see what happens.Once you've done it a few times, you won't be so scared. One thing you can do is ask for an application and take it home to fill it out, so you don't have to fill it out right on the spot. You could try applying for a job with a friend, so you can support each other. Also, your city's employment agency can give you some help applying for jobs and might even be able to find a job for you. It'll be less scary if you get some help.
If you're scared of the interview process, it's something you'll overcome with experience. Accept the fact that your first job interview will be awkward, and you'll get better with time. Remember, it doesen't really matter if your first interview doesen't go perfectly. You'll have lots of job interviews in your life.
Another trick is to start by applying for jobs you don't really want. That way you won't feel so bad if you're not accepted. But if you are accepted, you have to decide if you're going to take the job or turn it down.
The scariest part of the whole process is the application and interview. If you're offered a job, just show up and do what they tell you. Once you're actually doing the work, your fear will disappear. Remember, 90% of success in life comes from just showing up.

What are you scared about?
It is just a job. Try not so sweat it. If you don't like the job, get another one. You are obviously young, since you have never had a job. Young people tend to think that their situation is different from everyone else's. The reality of it is, almost everyone goes through the same things. Yes, I was a bit apprehensive about my first job, but if it is something that means a lot to you, how could you possibly be scared about it? If it isn't that interesting to you, again, how could you care one way or the other? I know telling someone not to be scared of something is easy, but the more you think about it, the worse you will be. DON'T WORRY, BE HAPPY!
Good luck,
Stevo.

The search for your first job is always scary. I got my first job by just filling out every job application I could get my hands on when I was at the mall shopping. I was having fun and managed to be called back for more than one interview. If I liked the stuff sold by the store, I kept going back until I got a job there. Employees can get discounts!
Think of it as an adventure. After all you have nothing to lose and a possible job to gain. Have fun, you don't have to take the first job offered to you if you don't like it.

I was really nervous too. Start out working at a grocery store or fast food chain. When you first start working, they don't just throw you into a uniform and expect you to know what you're doing! They'll show you the ropes, and you'll start feeling comfortable with your position. Most people you work for aren't going to be mean or pompous. And since you'll probably be working with the public, they'll be very understanding. Besides, you'll be working with other people around your age who will be friendly. Talk to them, ask them questions, and you'll make new friends! So don't worry about it. Nothing will go horribly wrong. The idea of getting a first job is a lot scarier than actually going out and getting one. Just keep telling yourself it can't be that bad, seeing as most people have gotten jobs and lived to tell the tale!
Best of luck!

So the step is to get a job but I do know what you mean, its that you dont want to fail at the job, but look at it this way you will make new friends and of course the money is sure nice to get too. Its not all that bad its just the first step of walking through that door but once your in your going to ask yourself why the worry. Go for it and good luck

Don't wait until it becomes a life and death matter. In other words...start looking for work you don't really care about. When you aren't uptight about it; you will seem very confident...because you have nothing at stake...nothing to win, nothing to lose. This will bolster your confidence, help you through the interview process, give you a little experience...and if you get the job anyway, you will feel so victorious, you can decide what to tell them at that time. ..."cross the bridge when you get to it." It is okay to tell them it is your first interview and that you are nervous. They will understand and help you through it. Remember that the first time for anything is always the roughest...after that, you'll be just fine. Happy Hunting!

You are allowing your fears (un-named) to rule you. You could be anxious about your performance, have a fear of competing with others, fear rejections, etc.. Using mind over matter really helps. Saying to yourself, "I know I am as smart as at least half of these people and they are still here." "I didn't have a job before I found this one, so if I fail I'll just get another one." Good luck!
