VERY tacky, and often, VERY exaggerated.
I once went out with this guy who flat out asked me how much $$ I made. (This is a first date, mind you!) I asked him why, and he said "I want to make sure you're not after my money." (WTF? Are you kidding me??? Does it say GOLDDIGGER on my forehead? Not last time I looked!!)
Turns out - he was in debt up to his eyeballs. His car (a BMW) got repo'ed, and they started foreclosure on his condo. Who was after whose money, I wonder????
Oh, and incidentally, in case anyone wonders - I just got up and walked out after he made the after his money comment. Left his snooty self with the drink bill.

usually they are just trying to impress and more than likely they do not and are not all they appear to be...that is the beauty and the ugliness of the internet is that you have no idea who you are talking to, even if someone posts a pic you still have no idea who the real person is. it could be just an insecure person who finds it easier to talk to people on line but it could also be a dangerous predator that why you never believe or trust someone on the internet no matter how nice they seem. i feel sad for those who feel the need to make themselves look or be better than what they think they are...bottom line people should just be themselves, money and things do not make you a better person.

Very rich people will talk about their money to show off and to be accepted. They are kind of insecure and also they have not made the money themselves. Wealthy and middle class will not as everyone knows their status. Poor people will talk so that they may get some help and are in need.

I think it's usually insecurity--he feels like he isn't very smart, interesting, or good-looking, so he tries to get people to like him by showing off his money.
Or they just have no idea that they're being tacky. The kind of person who blurts stuff out without stopping to think before they speak.

Its very shallow and like you said tacky to brag, let alone brag about how much money you have. Its also good to have confidence in yourself but you shouldn't act like you're better than everyone else because of it or for any reason.

I live in a resort town with a lot of wealthy people. (I'm not one of them! lol) My experience is that the people that actually have money, don't talk about it. In fact, most of them you would never know they had money if you didn't know them very well, or if you hadn't seen how they live. People who brag about ANYTHING are usually people with low self esteem and a need to feel accepted.

They usually aren't and just like to brag. Tacky isn't the word for it.

When people start laying it on thick about how much they I feel sorry for them because I wonder what is so wrong in their life they have to boost them selves that way or they're are that empty.

If what anyone has is only good for bragging rights, they need to look for something else in life, something with meaning

People like that are so insecure with themselves they are looking for outside validation, and some are outright ugly about it.
