At my sons circumcision they just put a topical cream on his penis and let that sit for about 30-45 mins. Then they took him in another room and did it. It took about 10 mins. He had the plastibell method. He seemed to have no discomfort. We were given no meds to take home either. He had a small ring around his penis for about a week then it just fell off. I didnt have to clean him or diaper him differently. It was very easy. This was done in a doctors office and cost around 100 dollars. It was done on his 1 week bday.

Both my sons are circ'd and yes they can have local anesthetic with the procedure.

I believe there is certainly a purpose to the foreskin, but given that men in our society wear clothes most of the time, the area under the foreskin can become an issue because the penis is not left to be the way it would if one was naked.

I also know three adult males who ended up needing a circ procedure due to infections and other issues -- it is certainly not easier as an adult I'm told.

I talked to two urologists, two pediatricians and others and finally made the choice to do it.

You can also ask to have what I think they now call a modified circ. They do not take anywhere near as much tissue as they did in the 50s & 60s.

best wishes.

Just don't do it. Its cruel. For those of you that say that is a hygenic thing or its ugly, why don't we cut of baby girls labia's. It would be way more hygenic and less ugly. COME ON PEOPLE, your cutting the skin of the most sensitive spot on a guy when his is just a few days old. Stop the Cruelty!

I left my child intact, the way God made him.

Did you know that the AAP actually says that there is no reason for routine infant circumcision?

(How can CUTTING OFF part of your body be like "giving them a shot?" Here.....let me cut off your earlobes or better yet...your CLIT....and see what you think of it?! Your little brother "forgot about it?" It's called SHUTTING DOWN. An infant has no other way to deal with the pain. They shut down. They sleep for a long period of time to recover from the painful and traumatic experience.)

Cruel? They are babies it's like giving them a shot, my little brother forgot about it the second it happened. Trust me I have been with a guy who was not circumcised he actually ripped the skin and bled, allot. He had to go to the hospital to get stitches, plus it's a hygienic thing stuff could get trapped in there and there could be an infection. EWW! Just get it done for his own good!
