I know that closely related cousins probably have similar DNA. It takes one X gene and one Y gene to have a genetic disease activated. Howevr, i was wondering if the reason for no cousin marrige is the social burden of the child that the parents make.

It's actually not illegal for first cousins to marry in many states. In many other countries marrying first cousins is very common. There's actually not much more risk of having a child with health problems when cousins marry. It's less risk than having children past 40.
For whatever reason America decided that is was morally wrong for cousins to marry, so a lot of states made it illegal.

Now having said that, for me personally the thought of marrying any of my cousins is pretty creepy. It's definitely not something that I'd ever consider.

In most areas, second cousins can marry but not first. In first cousins, 50% of the DNA is similar (as they are the children of siblings, whose DNA is very similar), so the chances of genetic defect are too high.

Of course it would be a social burden for the child!! Do you realize how much crap they'd get in school? The child would be called an imbred! Besides...there is enough people in the world...you shouldn't be hooking up with your cousins!!!

in the U. S., this is prohibited to marry a common cousin in maximum states. this is criminal to marry your 2d in all of them although. As for Norway, i don't be responsive to their regulations so i won't be in a position of assert. a great variety of worldwide places enable first cousin marriages although so it o.k. could be.

In my culture your first cousin is your brother or sister. Thats what you call them anyway. And your grandma or grandpa's siblings are also your grandparents.

I think people think it is gross honestly, and it's really against most people's values. Values govern people's lives. We have sort of known forever that you aren't supposed to like your cousins like that, so it's just something most people live by. At least that's what I think.
