What ar eyou doing when this occurrs? Sitting, standing, lying? Tense muscles in the neck upper back and shoulders areas can cause an extreme sense of pressure.. the msucles form back of hte neck on up can do that..Pinched neves can do it too.. There's a multiple of problems that can cause this. Since you are experince vertigo, I would suggest seeing an ENT (Ear Nose and Throat Doctor) who can also deal deal with neck as well.

Fluid buildup in the inner ear. Usually a sinus/ear infection or Meniere's disease. The former is pretty easy to cure, the latter is helped by diuretics.

As Megan says, fluid build up. I had the same thing. Doc said to lay down for a couple of hours and it'll be gone.
