It's looking considerably lighter than it was when I first came home. I got this tattoo Sat. July 22nd. I have followed all the aftercare instructions to a T.

The peeling is a 100% normal part of healing (your skin was perforated by a needles 1000s of times, the top layer has to come off.) Mine have never faded noticeably with the peeling process, but then I've kept them slathered with water-based lotion religiously. Keep it lotioned up and when the healing is complete, if you still don't like the final color you can have it recolored.

It sounds normal. DO NOT PEEL IT YOURSELF. It should flake off on its own. My tattoo (rec'd 4/14/06) never peeled. The worse it ever looked was right after I got it when it was still red & a little swollen. Mine actually looks fake. My tattoo artist is a relative & he told me that if someone tells me it looks fake to take it as a compliment-it means the job was done well. I think if you are really worried then you should go back to the place you got it (if possible) and have them look at it. That way you have established NOW that there may be a problem-don't wait until a year from now to do something. Oh, if it is bleeding, you really need to go back & get it looked at.

Well, first A&D ointment fades out the color in your tattoo, and actually suffocates it. A&D is only good to use for the first day. The best way to keep the color is to used ointment for one day, clean it, let it dry and then begin using a non-scented lotion. You also have to understand that your tattoo is going to be A LOT more vibrant when you originally get it, because it's fresh. Once the scabs peel off, it is going to be lighter. However, if you see this as being too light, wait two weeks for your tattoo to heal completely and talk to your artist about a touch-up, which are generally done for free. :)

They all will fade a little (more with lighter colors). When you first get a tattoo they will all peel a bit from the needles. I find that if you use Noxzema on it it will keep it soft and you will have less peeling. I have full sleeves and with everyone this has happened.

Peeling is normal when it is healing, and it might fade some depending on the colors your have. Whatever you do, let it heal and dont pick at it at all, it will make it worse and you could end up with lighter spots in it.

Rub Lubriderm lotion on it. It is drying out, maybe the peeling and faded look is from dry skin covering the tattoo. You know like a cataract over the eye.

yes it's normal, if you peel it. try to keep it well lubricated and keep the peeling to a minimum. it will fade more if you peel it. tattoos normally end up looking slightly lighter than they looked when you first got it.

Yes they do peel as they have been scabbed over for a while. The colors will also be a bit more dull than when you first got at as the skin over the color has healed and is no longer open to the ink.

It`s perfectly natural. I have a friend that has the same problem, but it doesn`t effect him at all. Maybe you should try a different tattoo parlor and more expensive paints next time. Till then, be happy! You`ve got a tattoo!
