I think it would be a good idea for you to go ahead and start looking for an agent. Just like anything else you should shop around before you pick one.

I've known several actors who have started working with agents while they were still taking classes. Generally, I don't think it's a good idea. If you're in any sort of decent training program, it was conceived with a SEQUENCE in mind, and you would probably be best served by completing that training regimen.

The danger here is that, once you've begun a relationship with an agent, you may find yourself having to deal with outside commitments and obligations that compromise your ability to concentrate on your classwork...not a good thing.

It's tempting for actors to want to rush out into the professional environment. But, trust me: it's not going anywhere. Every day you spend training yourself and refinining your technique puts you that much further ahead of the thousands of would-be actors who didn't think it was important to learn the craft.
