Without question it's Ben Hill Griffin Stadium at the University of Florida. I attended the homecoming game in 2004 and I have NEVER heard anything as loud or intimidating in my life. When 90,000 fans are doing the Gator chomp in unison, its incredible to witness, and then you add some of the most passionate fans you'll ever find and you have a recipe for decibel levels above that of a rocket launching...

Having been to only 3 College stadiums for games. I have to base my opinion on the sound from the television...but my answers follow.
1. Texas A & M - Kyle Field...the 12th man..no one sits. The Band, the Chants...it's all noise all the time...and when it's focused at you..it's unbearable.

2. University of Tennessee - 100,000 fans, focused at the field...It's not Knoxville, it's Noiseville.

3. Florida State - Gators vs Noles......nuff sed. I needed ear muffs at the house.

4. Florida - The Swamp. If the heat doesn't get you, the crowd noise will.

5. Ohio State - The Horshoe was designed to trap noise.

6. Oklahoma - They bring it loud and almost constantly...unless they're getting beat (see oklahoma state), and then the opposing fans make just as much noise.

7. Texas - You would think the stands being so far off the field would make it quieter. But last year agains Oklahoma State you could barely hear the announce team do the play by play in the second half.

8. Wisconsin - Pack that many students and fans that close to the field and it's pure pandemonium.

9. Arkansas - Been to this one. War Memorial Staduim in Fayetteville. My god my ears were bleeding for a week. And it wasn't even a packed house.

10 Arizona - When the fans pack the stadium it gets hotter in there for the opposition than it is out in the desert..

Clemson's Death Valley

In the 2005 season, Clemson's Memorial Stadium, commonly known as ?Death Valley," reached an astounding 126 decibels when a packed crowd of 77,381 fans observed a Charles Bennett sack of QB Kyle Wright during the Clemson Tigers ' 3 OT heartbreaker against the Miami Hurricanes. This level easily surpassed the old record of 121 decibels set by LSU fans in Tiger Stadium, which holds 91,600.

The loudest stadium may be the Metrodome in Minnesota, but only when the Vikings are playing in it. I would probably say that Michigan University has the loudest stadium as they can fit over 100,000 people into it.

LSU and Clemson both are named Death Valley. However, only the fans at LSU created enough noise to register a mini-earthquake during the 1988 game against Auburn.

Sanford Stadium at Georgia has been pretty loud the last few years.

Neyland Stadium can be deafening.

When it's full, the Carrier Dome at Syracuse. No place for all of that sound to go.

As for open-air stadiums, I'd go with either The Swamp in Gainesville or Neyland Stadium in Knoxville. As for those who think it's Michigan, the place isn't nicknamed The Library for nothing. Horrible design for sound.

A&M has the loudest stadium. It is nicknamed the 12th man because of the advantage the crowd gives the team. It supposedly got so loud one game that the earth tremored. Too bad they can't win the Big 12 South. Best fans would be Ohio State and the Horseshoe.

Michigan is the biggest stadium in the US so they've got a pretty good shot, but graduating from an SEC school, I'd have to say UT, Florida, and LSU would give anybody a run for their money.

Ben Hill Griffin Florida Field Home of the Florida Gators is extremely loud because it sits very close to the field. It's also because of the excitement of SEC competition and really gets crazy with the fan noise. Ask Miami or FSU whenever they have played a game there. Known as "The Swamp"

My guesses would be (in absolutely no order):
1) Tulane - New Orleans and drinking go hand in hand (Bourbon St)
2) Ohio State - They have crazy fans, players, teachers, directors, etc.
3) Texas - They love em some football down south
4) FLorida St - Anytime they play Miami or Florida is insane
5) Penn St - White out is pretty lame, but loud
