Yes, elephants can swim. You see all that fat makes them very buoyant. As an example if I threw my grandmother who weighs close to 400 pounds into the Potomac river she would not drown. Just curse and scream and float safely downriver.

national geographic has some beautiful photographs of elephants bathing and swimming not too long ago, so i'd say they can.

Very well!!! But, with the trunk, they can also walk along the bottom, and so, rarely swim!
