Dont try to quit by smoking a Marlboro mild instead of reds. You wont quit if you try to downgrade the type of cigarettes you smoke.
The only way is to quit cold turkey. 5 people in my office quit smoking, and they had to do it cold turkey. The first 3 days is hard, I'm sure, but once you get through the first week, you should be fine.
You cant quit unless you want to. So if you have the will, then you should try.
You need to stay away from people who smoke or else you will definitely give in. You have to find a different outlet instead of smoking. So if you think about wanting to have a smoke, then just replace it by doing something else. Get the nicotine patch...it will at least help you get rid of that oral fixation. Make sure you are around people who will support you. Dont go to a smokey bar and expect to not give in..you need to seriously stay away from smokers for a while. Try not to replace smoking by eating...otherwise, you will just gain weight instead. Take up jogging or some exercise.

These tricks worked for me, but not for everyone.
Stop buying them and start bumming them.
you will go longer with out a smoke if you don't have your own.
Eventually bumming will making you feel like a lower class citizen, so you will have to stop bumming them.
The addiction to nicotine only takes 2 weeks to kick. The habit of smoking is much tougher, because its built in to your daily routine. If you recognize this, then you'll be that much stronger at resisting it.
You might quit drinking for a couple weeks too, we al smoke more when we drink. Keep yourself busy, and you won't crave a smoke after two weeks, however, you might feel bored or like something is missing, so don't be tempted. Some people eat food for the same reason. Gum helps too. And when you have nothing to do, read something even if its only for a couple minutes.

I gradually weaned myself off of cigarettes. One week I would smoke a pack a day, the next week I would smoke every cigarette in the box but two, then the next week l would leave 3 in there a day and so on. I smoked for 4 years and quit pretty quick that way.

Replace the bad habit with a good habit. Take up a new activity instead of smoking. Don't hang out with smokers. Use your mental strength to remove the desire to smoke... whenever you feel the desire, squelch it. It will become easier over time... there is no way other than sheer will power.

My mom got hypnotized. Seriously. It worked for her. My dad did the patch. Only kind of worked for him.
Talk to your doctor. Your health insurance may have medications or support groups, or other help for you.
Good luck!!!

Why are you asking this on the computer section? But just to answer your question, you might try the patch or that nicorette stuff.
