I have an odd sized vanity top that needs to be repaced. I don't want to order a custom top because it costs too much. I would like to buy a single piece preformed vanity top (counter and bowl) from Lowes (see link below) and cut it to size. Most of these tops are made of cultured marble.

Is it possible? Has anyone done this? If so, how?

Diamond blade in a grinder for cultured marble. You may want to wet it, one to keep from chipping and two to keep the dust down. But it is going to create a bunch of dust, so use a dust mask and do it outside. You mask off the cut and draw on the tape where to cut. Be very careful. Don't try to cut all the way through in the first pass. In fact you may have score it as deep as you can and pop the waste off. It isn't going to be a clean cut, so belt sand it a bit. And I wouldn't try it, if the edge is going to exposed. But if the cut edge goes against the wall, it will be ok. Also, get the side splash. It will cover up the cut.

Cutting a piece of marble requires a lot of skill and specialty tools. The home centers do carry preformed tops that are solid surface material that can be cut with a router, a Sabre saw and sanded to smooth the cut marks. Good luck

That is a piece of cultured marble... they are made in molds... and cutting them is a big no-no. They will crack and chip.... even with a super fine blade. I have seen contractors filing the edge at the most!

Only a postform laminate top can be cut. Cultured marble top... do not!
