If by "there," you mean the west, I'm not sure what you are talking about. They can all practice openly there.

If by "there," you mean the middle east, I don't think you're entirely correct in you premise. There are lots of Christians in Lebanon and elsewhere.

Of course, there are lots of countries around the world that don't encourage or even allow various (or even any) expressions of religion. That's politics for you.

You know what is really interesting (and sad), you are mis-stating truth in your question, but only one or two people point that out. You have everyone rushing to respond immediately glorifying their own tolerance, when they have no clue. Would you all take a few minutes to sit down and write what countries are included in the question's "there" first? I'm assuming you mean the Middle East and any country with a majority of Muslims. It takes very little research to find out that in most of the Muslim world, Christians are free to practice their religions. Interestingly enough, America's Arab allies, such as Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, are the most restrictive of all Muslim countries.

I have no idea! It drives me crazy I can tell you. I am not racist at all, but I could just imagine what would happen if we decided to go put up a great big cathedral or something slap bang in the middle of pakistan and then start preaching about how all pakistanis should die etc etc. It would not be tolerated. And indeed it should not be tolerated. So why do we?? I think to a degree, if you move into a different country for whatever reason, you should respect their culture.

Religion is just an utter nightmare isnt it. Probably why I am athiest!

It is all part of the big international power game. Like a gigantic game of Chess.
Organised religions are instruments of power and control, and in some countries the level of tolerance is very low.
Personally I have the same set of values for everyone and every country, and I am making it a point of principle not to visit places and countries that are intolerant. I also do not engage in business with them and avoid buying products from there.

It's my understanding that in some certain Arab countries, Christians are permitted to practice their faith and worship. However, in a large part of Islamic world, Christians aren't even allowed to worship, let alone be tolerated. Unfortunately, there's what we would call extremists just like it does exist within Christianity as well.

Extremists who hide behind the cloak of their religions aren't necessarily true believers but deluded themselves into thinking that they are a representative of their faith.

If the extremist Muslims would look and refer to their holy book, 'Koran', they'd find that it teaches tolerance and compassion even for people of different faiths and backgrounds. Not only that, it very much condemns hate-motivated violence and makes very clear that suicide is a sin that results in damnation.

Yet we still have all these suicide bombers killing themselves and others in the name of their religion... that's not a true representative of Islam by all means but unfortunately, these people are deceived by the extremists who perverts and twists the words of Koran to fit their evil and sinister agenda.

There are some so-called Christians like that such as Jim Jones, David Koresh and some cult-like leaders who lead a flock astray with their deceptions.

That's where moderate and true Muslims need to rise in support and speak out against the extremist Muslims who are hijacking their faith. Sadly, I don't see too many of them standing up and calling out these evil extremists. :(

I notice some Americans on here saying"Because in America we prize a persons freedom of expression more so than the repressive regimes of the world"....That's great, but how would you feel if YOUR way of life,AND traditional customs were being eroded away, because it may offend muslims?? That's exactly whats happening in the UK ! WE, in the UK,are losing our freedom of speech, are told, Christmas tree's offend others religions,we are TOLD to celebrate others religious festivals, what would you do?Is THAT happening in America??? I think the whole situation has gone too far. Their religious beliefs are theirs, NOT MINE,They are allowed to practice theirs where ever they go.Would I be allowed to do the same in their country,NO,but they EXPECT and DEMAND to do it here!! Seems to me we give too much, its about time we got off our backsides and done something about it!! Too much tolerance can have the opposite effect. That old saying, you reap what you sow,may very well come back to haunt us!! Think about it!!

properly, the Prophet Muhammad sal Allaahu 'alayhi wa sallam reported to expel the mushrikeen (inclusive of the Jews & the Christians) from the Arabian peninsula. the only ones who have been left there have been people who had a treaty with the Muslims in the past this ruling got here down (yet they have been ordered out as quickly as their component broke the treaty - because of the fact then the treaty is no longer valid).

What are you talking about????? Most Arab and also predominantly muslim countries such as Pakistan and Indonesia have many churches and the christians are allowed to worship freely.....

In Egypt, St Catherines Monastery both muslims and christians acknowledge its holyness even though its holy to Christians and Jews....

Why don't you try a little world travel before offering your unsubstaniated opinion.....

Who told you such rubbish ideas? It is obvious that Israeli public relation machine wiped the facts from your perspective completely.10% of the Moslem world are Christians and they practice their religion freely.Cairo,Beirut,Damascus,Baghdad, etc are full of churches. In many of the Arab countries like Egypt and Lebanon for example the Media celebrates the Christean holy days just as the Moslem ones. These are facts .You can ask your embassies to verify them.
