assuming you already have the wireless router on hand. you'll want to make the desktop the "base" unit for the network since it's not going anywhere. also hook the printer up to this one as well. install the dsl or cable software you got into the desktop. once done, install the router software. after installing the router software, you'll then be able to hook up the router itself. after it has done configuring your desktop, your internet connection should be ready to go.

take your laptop and install the dsl or cable software on that. it will automatically find the signal from the router and configure that way. you'll have you mini network up and running by this time.

It would really depend on the wireless router/ap that you have selected for a step by step detailed instruction. The process is the same for most all of them, but there are different default passwords associated with logging into the gui.

Your best step by step instructions are with the quick set up guide or manual that will come with your Wireless router/AP
