flaming Jane Fonda sort of liberal, when in fact their views may vary on all topics. They just don't like W. I know conservatives who think electing him was a mistake. Few people hold traditional liberal or conservative views on all political topics. Most of us are more complex than that. Isn't labelling just a lazy man's short cut to thinking?

Yes. It is. Labels and slogans just save you from having to actually think for a change.

When you add a political slant to it, it gets even worse. I criticise Dubya all the time, and get slapped with a "Liberal" label. I have been a Republican since age 18, and I am now 52. I despise the guy because he is a horrible president, and I do not want a Democrat to replace him. I want the Republicans to get their house in order.

Anytime you get a label or slogan the person is not thinking, they are spouting an easy phrase. "Have a nice day". Yeah, bite me. "Would you like fries with that?". If so, I would have ordered them, wouldn't I? "Do you want that supersized?". Um, sure, yeah, I want to reach 400 pounds. "One day at a time". I mean, did you ever ask anybody who said that what it really meant? What you get back is "Er, you take it one day at a time". Great. When you get off that 12 step program, try thinking.

Freaking Dubya, landing on an aircraft carrier, in a jet no less, in front of a 'mission accomplished' banner made me want to throw up. 'Mission accomplished'. Hell, in that moment, we lost Iraq. It didn't take any more than that.

Man touts a $300 billion yearly deficit as an accomplishment. 'It could have been worse'.

Screw it man, I want a small government, I want it paid for, and I want the government to stay out of my life as much as possible. That makes me a conservative.

Want to know who is the Liberal. Gentle hint. The first name is George.

When it was discovered that men could cook, shop, dress themselves independently of a woman while not being gay a new label came into existence metro sexual. This term suddenly gave men permission to indulge in these things without fear of social retribution. The only men still clinging to the old way are those to lazy to get up and open a can of soup for themselves. They wanna complain about how hard they work or how helpless they are when it comes to domestic things. They can always find an audience. It's the same with political labels. It's much easier to find a point and argue it regardless of any evidence to the contrary. Think like me drink what I drink wear what I wear and I'll feel affirmed in my beliefs. The frustration with this Administration is they've sold this idea to a massive audience with George W. Bush Jr as the sacred cow. The doctrine of George is abortion is wrong, gay marriage is wrong, the world needs democracy and were appointed by God to bring it. If you believe these three things you to can be chosen in this generation to be a light bearer. If you differ on any one of these three points or their application you are treasonous and hell bound for all eternity. Why is it that those who support Bush have such a need for affirmation ? I have to wonder with so much evidence supporting the possibility that Mr. Bush may have made some mistakes they aren't a bit insecure ? They retaliate with "if you don't like it get out of my country" or "treasonous liberal fascists". How dare anyone question our intentions in Iraq or the progress of it ? I think most are using labels they don't even know what they mean. I think that form of ignorance is lazy and it's how those who need affirmation establish themselves a foothold although not a good one. If you want to use labels like fascist or treason you need to know what they mean it's irresponsible not to. That would require looking into history and finding out what a fascist is. If you want to label somebody treasonous learn what it is and be warned if the baseline is low we are all in trouble. Look at history the Salem Witch trials the Spanish Inquisition, the Castro Regime, the Saddam elite force. All it takes in times of hysteria is one accusation one label and today it's the coke drinking liberal, tomorrow the conservative Pepsi drinker. What is freedom of speech in America today becomes McCarthyism, Genocide and Blacklisting. It's so much easier to hold yourself and the world to the standard of the box you live in. Let's hope no one comes late at night knocking on your door because someone labeled you a terrorist.

Your right, most people have to give in to the labels though, if you agree with most of the aspects of a certain side. Your absolutely right that liberal or conservative shouldn't become an insult, ie. libtard

Yes, you are right.

But at the same time, our brains work better when we can categorize things easily - there is reasearch into this.

It is definitely lazy to use labels as insults, but I think we've got some lazy people on Answers.
