I was told to wait until my girls were 5 months earliest, 6 months latest. Ask your pediatrician, sometimes babies need more at different ages than others. My older two girls needed cereal at 5 months, my youngest waited until 6 months.

You can start when you baby shows signs that formula/breastmilk is not enough anymore. normally around 4/5 months, but every child is different. Start by giving rice cereal with their milk at the night feed and then when everything goes well, start little bit (1-2 teaspoons is fine) of pureed fruit or veg. One at a time for about 3-4 days so you can see any allergic reactions if any. Dont rush, your baby. He/she will let you know when she needs more.
Have fun and good luck.

Every baby is different but my sons doctor rold me that when he could sit up on his own without help and stopped pushing out everything with his tounge he would be ready. My son will be turning 6 months soon and he has been eating pureed food since he was almost 4 months old. I started out with cereal then added fruits and went from there. I would suggest doing vegtables right after the cereal other wise she will only like the sweet flavored food and won't eat the vegtables. Good luck.

You don't need to use pureed foods at all !

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends waiting until your baby is about six months old before starting ANY solids. By that time, you can skip the pureed stuff and go straight to table foods.

How about a little ripe banana or sweet potato for starters?

I started putting baby rice cereal in my baby's bottle when he was 3 months old cuz we ate so much. most doctors don't recommend giving your baby baby food until they are 4 months old I started a little early but it was a messy job cuz they don't know how to eat yet. my son is now 8 months old and eats everything. he is even off the bottle and on a sippy cup..I don't see a problem with feeding them food a little early but be careful about the foods that you feed them..NO spinach until 1 year (there is a toxin in it that is harmful to young babies) lots of kids are allergic to tomatoes peanuts, melons and some others...I would just start with plain rice cereal for the first month or so

Three to Four months usually but you should check with your pediatrician first as all babys are different and sometimes can't tolerate foods at an early age, My grandson didn't start any foods until he was almost 5 months, and my youngest son couldn't tolerate anything but formula and juice until he was about 6 months old, Each baby has their own schedule.

6 months is the ideal age. Start with veggie, then fruit, and space out introducing a new flavor every 4 days to weed out any possible allergies.

At 5 months start on rice cereal (do not put in a bottle). You can mix in a little fruit to sweeten the taste for baby. The rice cereal will get them ready for the texture and perfect the swallowing ability with the tongue.

"Although many women in the past started giving their babies solids at 4 months, the AAP now recommends waiting until your baby is 6 months old before introducing any solid foods at all. Why? Because feeding solids earlier than this can increase the chances of your baby developing food allergies and also can prematurely reduce the amount of breast milk (the most nourishing "food" you can offer) that your baby consumes.

Water, juice, and other foods are usually unnecessary during a baby's first 6 months. Breast milk usually provides everything babies need nutritionally until they start eating solid foods.

Watch for signs of solid-food readiness, such as your baby's tongue-thrusting reflex subsiding and your baby beginning to reach for other people's food. Always start with baby cereal (rice cereal is usually the best one to introduce first) on a spoon before advancing to fruits and vegetables. But do not add cereal to your baby's bottle unless your child's doctor instructs you to do so. Adding cereal to bottles can make babies overweight and can make it difficult for newborns and young infants to digest their milk."

My ped. recommended that at 4 months if a baby has good head control, you can start with a single grain cereal and then move to baby foods. With both of my kids, I waited until 6 months. They'll be eating for the rest of their lives, no use in rushing it.
