If your blocked, a humorous way to help is to buy a copy of Natasha Bedingfield's cd Unwritten. That has a few songs in there about things writers can ralte to, especially These Words and Unwritten. Or find some classical music, I heard classical music puts you in a calm and settling mood. Try Mozart or Beetohoven. Beetohoven's 5 or 9th sympothy should be able to deliever you from any writing demons. I wish I knew what you were writing about, because music can put you in the mood. If you want an urban, gritty story to write about, try hip-hop/rap. If you want a sad story about a breakup, try any numerous pop songs. It's up to you and what you're writing about.

I find if I'm not emotionally ready to write I can't. My best words come when I have intense emotion. You don't have to be sad you can be extremely happy or excited, fearful, ashamed, Try and pick one of those moments and free write for about 30 minutes then go back and read what you've wrote you'll find inspiration there.
Free writing: Sit down in a quiet space with a pencil/pen and several sheets of paper. Don't worry about sentence structure or topic. Anything in your head goes on the paper, don't sensor anything.
This is one of my favorite tools

What concerns you...
Poverty
The hypocrisy of The Republican Party
you tell us...
Good songs shouldn't be contrived ..you can't have someone give you topic and then write a song that has any sort of weight..If this is how you have to write lyrics then you aren't a lyricist.
You need to write what you feel- I am a song writer trust me I know what I am talking about

write about a personal experience or something that happened to some one close to you and it had some kind of an impact. write about the world today....the war, the homeless, the children who are being abuse, prostitution, write about real life dilemma. heck!..write about the immigrants or the gay and the lesbians.

Think about something that has happened to you reciently. than build off of that. The best songs are written from real life experiences. People relate to them better.

Why didn't they call our country after the first people, Hittiteland? Instead they named it after a later group, the Angles, Anglo-Terra or England.

try and write about real emotions. don't try to make them sound too poetic or too broad. personal experiences are what people relate to and you can only successfully communicate what you've felt yourself.
