Global warming is now finally proven to be effecting our planet. Coal usage is on the rise rather than being phased out. Gasoline cars are still being produced by the millions. The rain forests(lungs of the planet) are still being destroyed. Hybrid vehicles are too expensive for the average consumer due to the economy. The polar caps and greenland are melting. The pacific ocean may soon enter a phase of continous El'nino. The global ocean conveyor is slowing down due to the influx of fresh water.
These are just a few of the problems we face right now. These problems will become far worse in the very near future if the world continues to take it's present course. It seems to me, that most of the incoming theories of how to solve some issues are a step in the wrong direction such as creating new bio-fuels instead of eliminating burning fuels all together. Has anyone considered the geological effects to plate techtonics if the polar caps melt and the earth is thrown off balance?

True, there are many problems in the world today. However, it is very hard to make time stop going forward, so the future will arrive, and it will bring catastrophies. Most of them not manmade.

Enjoy the ride while it lasts.

Global warming is now finally proven to be effecting our planet.
- Nothing new here. The earth has been subject to 10 warming period and 10 ice ages over the last million years. The greenhouse effect had begun long before combustion engines where in use.

Coal usage is on the rise rather than being phased out.
- and what is your point.

Gasoline cars are still being produced by the millions.
- and what is your point.

The rain forests(lungs of the planet) are still being destroyed.
- the fact is the planet is greener today than it was 100 years ago.

Hybrid vehicles are too expensive for the average consumer due to the economy.
- and they are worse for the environment than gasoline cars.

The polar caps and greenland are melting.
- the fact that the western shelf of Antartica and the southern edge of Greenland are breaking off and melting is true. But this has been happening in a normal cycle for centuries. In fact, the eastern Antartic and northern Greenland are growing and overall Antartica and Greenland have more ice today than they di 50 years ago.

The pacific ocean may soon enter a phase of continous El'nino.
- or may not.

The global ocean conveyor is slowing down due to the influx of fresh water.
- and it has happened before land before people were here.

These are just a few of the problems we face right now.
- along with incomplete information.

These problems will become far worse in the very near future if the world continues to take it's present course.
- and will probably continue with or without people or anything they do or do not do.

It seems to me, that most of the incoming theories of how to solve some issues are a step in the wrong direction such as creating new bio-fuels instead of eliminating burning fuels all together.
- There is no solution to the problem because there is no proof that there is a problem or if there is a problem what the cause of it is.

Has anyone considered the geological effects to plate techtonics if the polar caps melt and the earth is thrown off balance?
- It is already "off balance". It wobbles around its axis. The wobble will continue to get bigger over time as the MOON continues to move further away from the earth.

Stop worrying. We are insignificant. We can have little effect on the planet - even if we wanted to.

My friend you worry about life to much, live in the present. We're screwed no matter what. It takes on an average of 5-200 years for the atmosphere to burn off CO2. So from my gues the way we use gas and oil at the rate we are putting CO2 into the atmosphere we are causing way to much green house effects on the planet and there is nothing we can do about it. We will not be able to stop global warming, it is warming up at a faster rate then people predicted it would. With the ice caps melting, by the year 2,100 a lot of coastal cites will be under water and not excist anymore. We cant do anything man. Just enjoy life day by day.

During and after WWII the planet cooled. Why? Because of all the carbon going into the atmosphere caused by the warfare.

There might be another reason for global warming and it might actually be cyclical.

Volcanic activity has been increasing almost 400% since the 1970's. This large and rapid increase might be responsible for warming the ocean's waters and therefore the overall air and surface temperatures as well.

Dude--lighten up. Hyperventilating will only add to the problem. Let me at least take one of your concerns away--the Earth can't be thrown off balance--in fact, it's not in balance right now. It wobbles and changes speed in both directions. Melting ice caps are a huge problem for us coastal dwellers, but not for the rotation of the Earth.

For all those who are about to play the "it's a myth made up by liberals" card, there's a must read article in today's NY Times by the scientist that has been quoted more often by conservatives than any other. Here's a link, but you'll have to register for free and all that. (He says, "please quit misquoting me.")

The damage has been done, and we can not stop the climate change. We are still coming out of an ice age, but man has sped it up. We are in for a bumpy ride, and plate tectonics are the last of my worries.
