I am an administrative assistant at a synagogue (Jewish temple, in case you don't know). Our office is very slow during the summer, but someone has to be here to answer the phones and help anyone who may stop by. My boss is on vacation and there is very little to do here; she left me a list of projects to complete, and now they're all finished. I am able to finish all of my daily work (returning phone calls, opening mail, etc.) in about two hours with four hours left to spare. I could go home, but someone needs to be here. Besides, if I go home, I don't get paid.
So, my question is, is it wrong of me to be on yahoo! answers while at work? I kinda feel a little guilty about it, but probably won't stop doing it, at least until my boss gets back. If you were in the same situation, would you be on Yahoo! answers too? Thanks for your thoughts!

Thanks guys and gals! I don't feel so bad about it now. But I will leave this open for a while to see if anyone thinks I should be working hard at....um....reorganizing the filing system (because so far that's the only thing I've come up with to do.)

Absolutely not! You need to feed the urges of a hungry brain. Need to broaden your horizons. Nothing wrong with furthering your education and know-how while you have some downtime at work. If you are feeling guilty, you can always post a question you need answered for work now and then. This way you put yahoo answers for office use as well.

At your job, is there a work rule that does not allow you to use the Internet at work for personal use?? If there is nothing written - ask. At least while the boss is away - you will need to use your own judgment. All jobs are different with their own set of rules. Enjoy yourself while you can.

If being an Answers while at work was a crime they'd lock me up and throw away the key. I'd keep doing it if I were in your position and wouldn;t feel guilty because its not loike you are ducking work. I, however, am letting stuff pile up while I sit here wasting my company's time and bandwidth.
