I ate shrimp and it was fine. Everything in moderation.

The thing with shrimp is, you need to know how to clean them properly. You have to de-vein them before you cook them ...there is a dark line that runs along the top of the shrimp - that vein needs to be removed because it contains feces. It's like their "colon".

There is a lot of hype around fish that contain mercury. But you are safe eating any fish as long as you stay away from shark, king mackerel and swordfish. They contain levels of mercury that are too high to risk eating.

There's a lot of controversy around tuna too, but I love tuna and when I was pregnant I had at least one can a week. My doctor assured me that canned tuna was completely safe and my daughter was born in perfect health and still is to this day.

Salmon and anchovies are excellent to have while you are pregnant because they are rich in the omega fatty acids which is critical to brain development.

Stay away from any raw fish. Giving up sushi was one of the hardest things to do while I was prego : (

I was told by my doctor that any type of fish that was raw was out, as well as cooked fish that isn't domesticated. Fish like farm raised salmon were okay because their environment is controlled and monitored. Even fish like Tuna is not alright more than every once in a while. I was told fish more than once a week is not a good idea. Shrimp and shellfish like that are less likely to be a problem, but be very careful about it, choose only the freshest that you can find, even if the mercury isn't a problem, bad fish and getting food poisoning that bad while being pregnant would be horrific.

Shrimp is OK
You should limit your intake of shrimp to be safe

"Eat up to 12 ounces (2 average meals) a week of a variety of fish and shellfish that are lower in mercury. Five of the most commonly eaten fish and shellfish that are low in mercury are shrimp, canned light tuna, salmon, pollock, and catfish."

Nothing wrong with shrimp. I ate shrimp during my pregnancy and I have a very healthy baby boy. Just eat everything in moderation.

I ate a lot of shrimp when I was pregnant and my daughter is fine and healthy.

I'll let you in on another secrect as well I ATE SUSHI (gasp) as long as it is a reputable sushi place that serves clean, fresh fish, it's not a problem.

Like my doctor always says "What do you think people in Japan eat?"

good luck

You should probably stay away from it just to be on the safe side. Although there is probably little to no mercury inside, you're better safe than sorry.

Shrimp is o.k. & other certain types of fish too. You should avoid shell fish, tuna & salmon for sure.

If it's cooked, it should be fine. Shellfish don't contain as much mercury as other types.

You should not have any, you don't know if your baby is allergic and this can cause some serious problems if turns out to be positive. There are many shellfish allergies. Don't risk it.
