That was the first piece of legislation Clinton signed after taking office. But if you ask most people they will say it was the gays in the military thing. A liberal press? I think not. FYI George Sr and Ronald R were both opposed to the family leave act. They felt it would harm the economy. We had the longest period of prosperity after it was signed. Treat people well and companies do well. Just compare Costco to Sam's Club. The way they treat their workers and their sales figures. It is a perfect example.
I challenge the opposition to address the issue without calling liberals names and making baseless claims. How can any person that works for a living be opposed to workers rights?

Democrats had always been the party for the working man.

When Rove came along he was smart enough to realize that the only way a Republican was to ever get elected again was to chip away at the Democratic base. So they used every tactic they could think of to pull the middle class away from it's Democratic base. distortions of facts, personal attacks, deflecting issues, etc.

The tricks worked. By the effects are proving to be short term because all the polls say the middle class has finally gotten wise to the BS.

This just goes to show you that everyone has good ideas once in awhile. Everyone also has bad ideas once in awhile. That is exactly why we need to get off the whole Republican/Democrat crap and go strictly based on the ideas and actions of politicians. The way you hear people bicker about parties you would think that they thought one party was always right and the other always wrong. When will people wake up and stop living in that fantasy world?

The welfare class is considered the "working man" to democrats.

Just what the hell does the "working class" mean? That's about the stupidest phrase coined by the Democraps to excuse class and racial warfare.

Work can be physical and mental. Maybe if democrats gave the mental side a chance, but, alas, they have a mental disorder.

And they really love creating more government, so there can be more government workers - which we can fund with our tax dollars, that the liberals think we keep too much of for ourselves...

There isn't it a government job out there that the liberals don't covet - best pay, best benefits - all at taxpayer expense. I don't doubt that these "working men" (kind of a sexist term, don't you think, oh very intelligent david c?) - love working for the government - there is no accountability... government jobs are the liberals' dream, after welfare...wait, government jobs are welfare...

Hey John Skerry,

It's pretty simple: Working Class refers to those that work on an hourly wage vs. those who are on salary. No one is saying that White Collars don't work - it's just that rarely do they work full time and have difficulty making ends meet. Many hourly wage workers do have trouble making ends meet - and prior to FMLA would have been fired if they had to take time off to care of family.
