Or, do you think a cruise around the islands of Greece is doable? Any advice would be appreciated.

Pretty good question that you pose. I think it is safe to assume that both options(Tours-landbased only and cruises around the Greek Isles) are doable(Traveller and Owner of a Travel Agency). Some basic questions come to mind in light of the "Tours/Activities" vs "Cruise the Greek Isles" dilemna:

1-Are you looking for something that is land-based only? What that means is that are you into the sightseeing and shopping opportunities that land-based Tours offer?

2-Do you want to simply cruise the Greek Isles then stop at the ports and sightsee once you leave the ship?

3-Is cost a consideration in your decision? Depending on your choice, the costs will vary.

4-Length of trip?

Minor issues that are easily resolvable for certain but important in that it will truly simplify your search for which option best fits your wants and needs. Also understand that when people make recommendations, they make them based on their experiences and also their likes and dislikes which may or may not mirror your own. Anyone can say "Take a Tour" or "Cruise the Islands of Greece". It depends on what YOU want, not the general public.

But the bottom line is--this is your trip, not theirs so your priorities take precedence over anyone elses. But regardless what option you choose, there are quite a few options available to you. If you could kindly either call, email me at: indysteve1563@yahoo.com, or reach me through Yahoo Messenger with what both of you have in mind, we can research the options currently available to both of you that satisfy your wants, needs, and just as importantly, your Travel budget.

I am a travel agent. If you want to go an a Greek Island Cruise they have 3 day and 4 days cruises. The only difference is that the 4 days visits Patmos and Rhodes. To me cruising is not an ideal as you are only on each island for 4 hours max. If you have the time go and spend 2 nights on a couple islands. If you have the time or need the help my e mail is letsgotrvl@gmail.com

Cruise in September is excellent!
Visit several islands and coastal places, enjoy the hospitality of people and the greatness of mother Earth!
I have just returned from Kato Zacros and Sitia, East Crete! Mother Nature is not fair! Has placed so many beauties to this Island and most islands of the Aegean, Ionion Seas!
Also, do watch some play at an ancient theater!

Hi, It depends on how long you will be going to Greece for?. An island cruise would be wonderful,a dream of mine. Would you fancy doing a bit of island hopping?,get the ferry from Athens and check out the lovely islands.Tinos,Andros,Mykinos( you will have a great time if your broadminded). I enjoyed island hopping many years ago, with, as i said at the time,me,myself and I,it was a great holiday. Nowadays i go with the husband and family to Zante x3 and this year we are doing to Crete for the ist time. If you base on an island then the over night to Athens is very good,we did it twice from Zante, the price around 100euro each included all the bus, ferry and sightseeing. Wherever you go in Greece you will have a holiday to remember, enjoy.

The cruise around the islands would be nice. I've had friends do this and rave about it.

Definitely visit Delos - really fascinating archelogical ruins. Go with a tour guide if possible. It's near Mykonos (another must-see) so you can probably combine them in one trip.

Don't bother with Iraklion (Crete) unless you're really fascinated with the Knossos Minoan temple. I found the rest of the city unappealing and congested.

Make sure you try moussaka, baklava, hummus and other Greek dishes when eating out. They are much better than the watered-down versions we get here in the US! I wasn't all that fond of the Ouzo, but I tried that as well (once).

Have fun!

A digicam is nice to carry yet I surely does no longer placed on turn flops. you may be doing a range of of strolling and the crowds are so large that I easily have even lost a sneaker. It truly relies upon on what you intend on procuring, yet even as i ought to pass, I frequently ought to carry on $100, if no extra. foodstuff there is SO severe priced besides the undeniable fact that the merch is on your funds. If I were you, i ought to also carry sunscreen because, except it is raining, you're sure to get a sunburn. the purely different suggestion I easily might want to is stay hydrated and produce a bottle of water with you. it is plenty more cost-effective than having to purchase it, plus, they take the caps away so that you're forced to purchase water or beverages everytime you want it. All in all, assume to have relaxing, stay hydrated, and placed on mushy clothing because you're probable going to be sweating plenty. Edit: definite, they're going to prepare you ways to carry a backpack or handbag, they're going to easily look interior of it once you enter to verify you have not any guns or stuff like that.
