I think that in their great enlightenment of intelligence they forget some of the most basic things. Smart people tend to over think their problems and in doing so sometimes turn a very simple answer into difficult one. I don't know about the specific mistake that you were talking about but from the sounds of it, it was bad enough for you to drink(unless of course you are an alcoholic). So if it was a woman I'm sure it isn't the end of the world(other fish in the sea and all that), and if it was your job you just have to get another one and be careful about using them as a reference.

Wisdom will lead to fewer and fewer errors but is gained by usually learning from mistakes you have identified in your past . Then things like hormones and alcohol complicate things.
Your judgment will get better if you bother to learn from experience, and every moment you are getting older . Wisdom comes with age, occasionally, if you were paying attention. LOL
Then of course your old , and the young discount what you say because you are not cool and could not possibly understand, just like you once did. ROFL
God loves jokes. :-)

It's usually when they are single and/or live alone. Once you have a wife and/or a steady girlfriend you won't be feeling too intelligent about a lot of things and all your mistakes will start looking smaller in comparison to other men.
It's nature's way of keeping people's egos balanced.

Because little mistakes anyone can make, but it takes a real intelligent person to make the huge ones

Because intelligence is no substitute for experience and the only way to gain experience is through learning, experimenting and at times, failure. In the end, it improves a person, makes them realise what to do differently- it's all part of life.

Because academic intelligence mostly prepares us for tackling intellectual problems, not so much life or social problems. A good example would be someone who is a highly educated professional but whose personal life is wrecked by "common sense" mistakes.

Making a mistake is human. Being man enough to step up and accept any and all responsibilities and consequences, that makes you a better person and a better man. Life goes on :)
