Bob: what did you use for terminal velocity vs. altitude?
In a vacuum our little trip would be over in a little under two minutes and you'd be doing a little over 2,500 mph at impact...
GreenP: How 'bout I just do yours and you do mine ;)

From 40 miles up, it would take 3 hours and 40 minutes to fall. That would give me time to watch 3 and a half episodes of McGuyver, hoping one of the episodes would show how to escape this dilemma with a Swiss Army knife, 53 cents worth of change, a belt, the heel of one shoe, and a driver's license.
Geez, it's really gonna suck if McGuyver solves this problem in the last ten minutes of the fourth episode.
Edit: It might be because 3 hours and 40 minutes are how long I was trapped in an elevator once. Electromagnets keep the brakes from engaging during normal operation. The brakes automatically engage if the speed gets to great (the brakes are in wheels on the elevator and centrifugal force will engage them) or if the power fails (no power to the electromagnets to keep the brakes from engaging). In other words, you won't freefall in an elevator.
Then again, it might be because I measured the time in square seconds instead of the kind of seconds most people are used to. ;)

Yeah, the water tricks are fun. I would just watch thet water mindlessly. Then do some stunts I can not do in the ground. Then when I am done I will do this thing that is so *SPLAT*

I would stand with my feet apart. Then I would bend backwards as far as possible. Turn my neck arround kind of like in the movie exorsist. I would reach down even more till my lips were close to my but. I would then gently kiss my assss goodbye!!
