I am a college student, who has future hopes of going to med. school. Currently I am in need of a car to drive from campus to my job and home on the weekends. Is it better for me to buy or lease a car, because in a few years I may be moving out of state. Also, what is a dependable and affordable car to consider?

You need to decide how many miles a year you would drive. Usually it's cheaper to buy a good used car, but some leases are extremely inexpensive right now. So, if you can get a good price and stay within the mileage restrictions, it might be the better idea (new cars have warranty, many have roadside assistance, tend to be safer).

Leasing depends on how much you are going to be driving. Leasing tends to be a less expensive "now" option but can get you into trouble if you go over the miles. Plus, when you're at the end of your lease, you trade the car in and get something new (good or bad, depending on what type of person you are!) Going to med school, you will have a lot of lean years ahead, I would recommend buyingsomething economical now and just keeping it until it won't go another inch.

Good cars to consider would be a Honda Civic (inexpensive, cute, and very dependable), Mazda 3, Toyota Echo, Scion Xc, or Nissan Sentra.

Buy....

It is ultimately less expensive way to have a new car. You'll pay more per month, but when you trade it in or sell it, you actually end up with less cost per month. Also, some lease agreement will not allow you to take the vehicle out of the state. Please read the contract to see if this is going to be an issue before signing a lease contract.

I always liked Honda vehicles.... such as Civic. The resale values are very high.... Again, you pay more at the beginning but may come ahead when you sell it. Very dependable and fuel effecient.

check out some car websites for your price range but buy if you would be using it often to put a lot of miles on it. if you lease and there's a lot of miles on it, you would be paying a whole lot more for it than if you purchased. people lease usually if they have a business and can write off or for someone who likes a new car every 2 or 3 years and can afford it.

Honestly I wouldn't lease...it usually seems better because your payments are cheaper, but you have a mileage limit and it sounds like you are traveling alot. Plus when you turn it back in you have nothing to show for it. I would recommend getting a KIA. They are pretty dependable and affordable. They are backed by a 10 year 100000 miles warranty.

i'd buy a car cause then later on you can sell the car for some money. If you lease the car, you can't sell the car cause the car isn't yours.

i would buy a used or lease. which ever you decide make sure you get good gas mileage, i heard Toyota is great when it comes to that at like 30 miles a gallon.

Buy one, a cheap one, and pay cash if you can. If you have a car payment, it screws up a budget, completely, trust me I used to have two car payments. One for me and one for my wife. We sold the cars and were as upside down as one cold be. We found cheap cars and paid cash for them. We were saving that money instead of paying for car payments. We drove the heck out of them for years and years. Saving cash for years and years. With that cash, over the years, my wife finally bought her dream car a BMW 650i convertible with cash! Talk about bringing a dealer to his knees, they prefer payments to cash, because that is where they make their money through financing. But they also can't resist $50,000 of cold hard cash in front of their nose. I did the same and bought the pickup of my dreams this year as well. No car payments and a monthly budget that is so simple that my six year old can calculate it!!!!

BUY SOMETHING CHEAP WITH CASH!!!!!!!!
MY HONDA CIVIC LASTED 230,000 MILES AND I BOUGHT IT FOR $900.00 IN 1995!!!!!!!!!
