Did you watch the auditions for You Think You Can Dance? There was a belly dancer on the show that was fantastic. Maybe you could do some research on the history of belly dancing and the health benefits of it to convince your mom to let you take classes.
My sister bought a video and taught herself, made some costumes and did a demonstration and her kids school. If it isn't too sexy to do at and elementary school it should be fine anywhere.

There don't seem to be any quite relating to the complete protection/stalker kind problems, that's more often than not why your mum would possibly not assist you to have one. There are a few privateness facets on there; no one can see your title, for instance. Maybe when you did not submit a photograph or show in which you're from. Perhaps you will have to do not forget fb rather, its now not open like myspace, folks can handiest view your profile if they're to your community. But to be sincere, how is she going to understand when you do get one? Delete your historical past, and many others.

There are already some great ides in the answers already given, as an Arab and a belly dancer, i can tell you that it is a GREAT exercise, it is also different than what many people around the world and the US think it is. Belly dancing is not about seduction and sexy dancing for men, so maybe do some research about its origins and show the true philosophy behind it to your mom. Also doing it as an activity with your mom is a great idea..

I would ask her to take you to the class you are planning to attend to watch the other girls dance, so she can she for herself, or perhaps convenes her to do it with you. It would be great mother-daughter bonding time and it would be her little way of being able to watch you. If your just going to do it at home, maybe buy a dance tape and watch it together before she decides. It would not be far for your mother to tell you it wrong with having a good reason and proof first. Your mother was once your age too, don't forget.
GOOD LUCK XOXO

Maybe your mom is thinking about the stupid Hollywood stereotype with the seven veils and crap like that. Wrong, wrong, just another example of Hollywood not doing their homework at all and helping spread ignorance.
Go to a class together, research the history and origins of the dance, and look at it a discipline and an exercise.
It sure beats pole dancing.

First, tell her about how all the boys in your class are trying to date cheerleaders and aerobics instructors. Then say, hey, maybe I will bellydance! Then the guys won't bother me!

Tell her about the good exercise it is. Do you plan on competing or having recitals? If not she might be ok with it.
My mom was against me bellydancing when i was your age. Then she realized the exercise benefits that it brings.

Tell her that.. Tell her you want to do an exercise that is fun and strengthens your core muscles, that you'll want to do each week. And then show her some of the moves, maybe she'll be ok with it.

Tell her that you are really interested in it. And persuade her that there isnt really that much wrong with it. As long you try to go to a decent place to do it.
