Everyone's cycle is different. There is a myth that woman ovulate 14 days after their period begins...but that is only an AVERAGE and each month can be different. The other thing is that sperm can live inside you for up to 5 days.... so if you are having a shortened cycle one month and you have sex right after your period and you ovulate earlier than day 14 than yes, there is a chance of getting pregnant. They only way to know is to know exactly when you ovulate. There are several ways to know and some are more effective than others. Some can only predict before ovulation happens and some can only predict that is has already happened. The absolute best info I can give you is to go read a book called Taking Charge of your fertility by Toni Weschler. It will help you understand your body and all the myths about it. It will help you time when you are ovulating and the best times to conceive – or not! . It's about knowing your body and knowing when you are fertile or not. You can pick and choose what you do with your info. Good luck and don't listen the all the myths! Even if you don't get into charting and everything....it will help you in so many ways!

You start counting from the first day of your last period. You then ovulate 14 days from then. You then get your period in 14 more days. That makes a 28 day cycle. you should ovulate then but some people are different. I know some one that gets pregnant during her period. that means she ovulates then.

well take the number of days in your cycle ( it could be 28-35 days) and subtract 18, then count from day one.

ie. my cycle is usually 32 days long, there fore
32-18=14
the first day of my cycle starts on the first day of my period which was on the 19th of July, so I add the 14 to the that date and I get August 1st!

Sorry for using my selfas an example, but now you know!

therefore August 1st is when I ovulate

its seven days before and seven days after rule. if you started on july 1, then including your period count 14 days, july 13 or 14. regardless of whether you have 3, 5, 7 day periods you only have the days left over until you hit fourteen days. it is unsafe around the 13 and 14 days. ovulation starts after this date.

Approx. 14 days after the start of your period. Your egg remains fertile for up to 7 days. A sperm cell can live for up to 5 days in the woman's body. So technically you have a very GREAT chance of getting pregnant if you have sex anytime between your 9th day after your period STARTED, to the 21st day after your period STARTED. You can have sex before you ovulate, and the sperm stays viable for several days, you ovulate and a sperm can fertilize the egg immediately after it is released.

Like the other posters said, the average is fourteen days after the first day of your cycle - BUT IT VARIES IMMENSELY!!! That's why the "rhythm method" is like pregnancy Russian roulette. When we were trying to conceive I got the ClearBlue ovulation timing system (and what a PITA that was) and it turned out I was ovulating 18 to 20 days into my cycle.

I think you count from day 1 when your period starts so it would be like 7 days after your period.
