I think Risika has the wrong idea, and Rachelle is right on the mark. There is a devil. He was originally God right hand, number one angel. But he tried to take over Heaven behind God's back. So, God cast him out unto the Underworld, where he could be the leader of Hell. He has since always tried to take over the creations of God, and that includes people. The possession happens when Lucifer (which was the name given to him by God when he was an angel) sends out his minions (demons) to go into and use a living creature to do his dirty work. They cause the recipient to do physical harm to themselves and sometimes others. I have not personally seen this, nor have I known anyone that has. But it was supposed to have been more common in the days when the books of the Bible were written.

When possessed, if the demon causes self-harm to your body and then is cast out of your body...then yes, I'd imagine you'd feel the pain. However, during the actual possession, I do believe (according to many accounts) that you do not remember anything that happens. It's like your mind is being temporarily supplanted. An alternate spirit inhabiting your body means that your own is temporarily subdued. Demons are just... evil spirits (not spirits of actual people, but just general spirits), the devil is... satan pretty much, the ruler of hell. Hope that helps!

There is no devil, and "possesion" is very rare. Cases where it cannot be proven as delusions or hallucinations are even rarer.
