You need to realize that you have no right to hit your wife and beating your children is wrong. Stopping demands a certain level of self-awareness and high-mindedness. Most people will tell you to go to counseling, but if you know what you're doing is wrong, then you should be motivated to stop on your own. You should leave the house voluntarily until you've got better control over your emotions and actions. Get in touch with why you are angry and lash out. You may need to get a divorce. If you are in a relationship in which you are violent and your wife puts up with it, then you both need to sit down and talk about why you hit her and why she takes it. Is it possible that you both get "turned on" by the violence or that one or both of you associates love and caring with being beaten? You say you hate slapping them around, so you need to ask yourself why you do something you hate.

Your children may wind up hating you one day if you don't stop your bullying and your wife if she doesn't stand up for herself and them.

Well this is NO laughing matter. I am also hoping that you are not being funny about this either. No woman, man or child deserves to be hit. If you are telling the truth then the only thing for you to do is check yourself into a hospital right away and get some help.
It surprises me that your wife and children are still around you, I would have left and turned you in to the authorities the first time you attempted to do it, and got myself a divorce from you. So if you love them then you will not continue to hit them. If this was a joke then you are a very very sick person....

Go to therapy, get help from a minister. Try going to a bar, pick out the biggest meanest drunk and slap him around instead. With luck, you'll gain perspective, live through the experience, and the best part is when you feel that urge again, there's always a huge mean drunk who doesn't have a wife and kids to beat on...it's a way to help you both out.

DON'T!
It's that simple. Take a time out go for a walk or go take a drive. Go outside and yell and scream, or better yet get one of those one blow up things that boxers use and hit it instead. It will help you to release your anger and yet keep your wife from having black and blue marks all over her.
So it's a win win situation.

Do you want me to slap them around for you? That way, you don't have the guilt of doing it but the job is still being done.

Do you belong to a Church? Talk to a priest or minister. Look in the yellow pages for councilors. Do SOMETHING! Believe it or not, you aren't alone. There is help. Catholic Charity's have free counseling. So do many others.

Patience. If you love yourself you would do that. Seek help pray... Go for a walk or a drive or go out with your friends. Think about the damage. Just stop...

Where do you live? I'll make sure to call the cops in the next five minutes. Put yourself in jail...that'll help you stop.
