If you're already a college graduate, you can probably do it in two years in the state of Illinois. If you haven't graduated, you'll need to most likely go four years... keep in mind some states now require FIVE years to be a teacher (Kentucky, for example).

Probably 2-3 quarters, depending on how many credits would count in your electives. If you took some sports classes in your bachelor's program they might count. Otherwise, it takes most people a full year to add a teaching certificate to a non-teaching bachelor's.

To the person with the bad attitude: Many schools want a coach to have a teaching degree. Maybe the questioner wants to coach a sport for a high school and needs to have the degree. Maybe he just wants it. No education is ever wasted.

seviceman, that was rude. Some people enjoy a variety of sports and have a passion for teaching. Why not put the two together. What is the point of even answering the question? to be an ***?

i am guessing it will take twice as long to convince a woman to date you after you have become a p.e. teacher than it will to actually get certified. actually admitting you teach gym is saying that you are too dumb to teach and not knowledgable enough about any one sport to be a coach
