Has anyone put a turbo on the 4G63 single overhead cam engine?
I want to put one on my Galant but not sure of how well it will go over on the stock engine as far as how well it will handle it. If so , what turbo did you go with and what other mods did you have to do if any?

I think you'd be better off finding a 4G63T for a swap. Since these engines have been around for almost 20 years, the cost of a swap would likely be comparable, and the internals are much stronger. Of course, you'd probably want an upgraded tranny and halfshafts to support the additional power.

Regardless, with the 4G63 adn 4G63T there is the very real possibility of crankwalk which is exacerbated by additional power. I'd be very careful and find someone who's done that kind of mod to get some insight from before I went with it. Check out the link below in the source box, it's a Mitsu forum that is usually pretty helpful.

I can't help much.

1) The swap is possible, there's limited writing about it on www.dsmtuners.com. I'd search their archives.

2) I'm not sure if this is an in-an-out tit-for-tat swap. I have no idea. I got the impression that it was difficult.

3) I will damn near promise you that no one responding to this on YA has really done this swap.

4) CW isn't that big a problem, and wouldn't necessarily be for the years the poster is looking at, and thirdly wouldn't matter anyway since there's no proven correlation between whp/wtq and the 4g63’s propensity to crankwalk.

My personal experience with swaps of this kind is this-- there's a certain kind of individual that thrives on the masochism of paving their own path into oblivion. It's more work than you think to swap them out, and most people who walk paths like this leave their cars as junk in their wake.

I've swapped a 4g before and it's not fun, or worth it. That is all...

But have fun!
