Some library and/or reading advisory websites have book lists on various subjects and genres. And there are various catalogs and databases available at libraries (such as WorldCat, Booksinprint.com, Fiction Connection, etc.) that you may be able to use to find your book.
If you post your question on yahoo answers about the specific book, you may have more luck finding it. I know I've been able to solve four or five of those kinds of questions on Answers. And while sometimes no one remembers the book, you might be surprised that someone actually will remember.
If you're really desperate and don't mind paying a few dollars...try posting your question to Loganberry's book stumper page. They're success rate is very high.

This is probably one of the best places to do it - type in the subject that your'e looking for the name of a book, and tell us all you can remember about it, and we'll try to help you find it.
I don't know of any other sites that specifically do this - but it's what I come here hoping to do for people :-)

If you describe it, chances are there might be someone here who knows what you're talking about and can remember the title.
