some ways that I know of to tell if a guy likes you include how much he talks to you or acts when you're around, or if he does nice things for you, or if he's a gentleman (holds open doors, stuff like that)...if you're comfortable with it, he might be cuddly or touchy-feely, or flirty...if he's bold he'll show that he is...he might buy things for you or do you favors...it depends on the guy. And yes, some will come right out and tell you that they like you. It can be tricky to tell, but hopefully these hints will help you out.

Some guys that like you are the type to go right up and talk to you. These outwardly friendly types give the strongest signals. Then there are the shy types. They put up a front of "not interested" because they are hesitant to show interest in you for fear of rejection. It is harder to tell with a shy one, I would ask his friends if he's single, even if you know he is, for starters. Word would get back to him that you asked, and maybe he will stir up some courage to at least talk to you.
