I don't worship celebrities and I am amazed when I see people being arrested for stalking them and such. I also can't believe the salaries they receive for making movies, when the people who really make a difference in the world, like teachers, don't make in a lifetime what these people make for one bad movie. It is a shame. I feel the same about professional sports players, too. They make way too much and those who make a difference make nothing.

Paris Hilton is an absolute joke..had she not been born into money, nobody would know her slimey little name. When I think of all the uproar over Angelina and Brad, it makes me sick. What exactly is so great about them? Nothing. Brad is a slut, and he'll be off with someone new in a year or two, just wait and see. I don't worship a single celeb. I like some..like Johnny Depp, but I don't idolize him or anyone else. They are simply people, thats it, not Gods, and not worthy of worshipping.

Power of the press (media). The media gives us Paris because that's what they think we want because we watch the reports, buy the magazines, etc. If we start ONLY buying magazines with Stephen Hawking, for example, the media will adapt. That's an extreme example, but I think it's the answer.

Who knows. There's plenty of sad people who do. Nothing wrong with 'celebrities' as long as they realise that they're just normal people like the rest of us who've been fortunate is selling their talent. I've seen many better amateur singers than, say,Tina Turner, Mariah Carey and Cher for example but those three have been hyper publicised to sell records.

Your question does not include me. When I'm asked what I think of this or that celebrity, I always say,"I think the same of him as he does of me".
In ancient Rome actors were considered to be the lowest type of humanity. These days they get tons of money and have their faces plastered everywhere, otherwise they are little changed from the Roman days.

Because we believe our own delusions. We dream of being beautiful, famous and rich. When a person of that persona is put into our life we exaggerate what we think they are and start to believe our own delusions. We worship the fantasy that they are people of great success and beauty like a super being that has risen higher than ourselves and we need them to exist to distract us from our own ugliness and mediocrity that we are ashamed of.

we live in a world were there are no more hero's and we need people that we can look up to.. its in our dna. so we pick the people that make us laugh and cry. We pay for the joy of stepping out of our "normal" life and getting to be in an exciting one like Star wars or Harry potter.
