Not in all cases... If you are putting in a central air unit for the whole house, I strongly rcomend Carrier. If it is a bedroom you wish to cool, 12x12, buy a bargin at your local home depot or wall mart... Make sure you get the proper btu for the right size room.. Measure your room before you go make a purchase... 7500btu will cool a very large bedroom. Also make sure the voltage of the Air Conditionaire does not exceed 120 volts or you will need to install a new receptical... Most a/c's are 120 volts but when you get near 15,000 btu's the voltage usually jumps to 220/240 so be aware.. Good luck and stay cool.

Almost all, whether domestic or import are made in the same factories with the same components.
Most manufacturers do not make their own parts, but assemble with parts from around the world, much like your computers.
In fact, most generics are re-branded items from major companies, with no difference except plastic housing and nameplate.
Feel comfortable and assured that your generic will serve you as well as the more expensive models.

Most but not all generic window units have no provision to recharge the freon coolant. You just clean them out periodically and when they wont cool any more in two or three years you throw them away and go get another one.that's why there so cheap.
Likewise most but not all better brand name units,[GE Amana, Gen-air,] to name a few all have fittings in the coolant lines to recharge the freon should it ever stop cooling. I recommend Amana window units. Your on your own as far as central air units go; I'll never be that rich. hope that helps.

I am not entirely sure, but I can tell you that I bought some great ones at Lowe's this past weekend - $99 for three 5k BTU's and 129 for one 10k BTU unit. They were Frigidaires, which is a brand name, and they work great.
