This is an interesting question just based on the definition of Animals. There seem to be two major schools of thought... one is that yes we are, and since we look like them we must have evolved. And the other is that we have a soul and are different. Alot of people say that we have around 98 percent of the same genetics as a monkey, but I have read that we have about 90 or so percent the same as a potato, so be careful. I am not saying we didn't evolve but my argument lies in animals ideal, I believe we are if we talk about the relation to them, (that we are similar), but then again we are plants also to some extent. I personally believe that we are a bit more than animals, even if we did evolve, I believe in a "soul" or spirit, and that each of us has one. Animals might have some sorts too, I don't know but I believe that we are as much animals as I am a Brian and you are (whatever your name is), we are all classified as something and the basis of belief that we are animals has some strength but I think that there is more to it than that. This is a question that I believe lies beyond what is usually considered science and has to be looked at also through faith.

Of course we are animals. It is a stupid delusion for humans to believe that we are above them. We need the same things that they do and would die just as easily if not even faster if those were taken away.
We're not plants, we're not rocks- of course we're animals. If you have internal organs like a heart, brain, and lungs- you're an animal.

yeah, we have to mate, sleep, eat, just like the animals, the only difference is we're more evolved.
