Wait...you're using Fahrenheit 9/11 for your facts? The movie which has already been proven to have 59 inaccuracies? The movie that Michael Moore himself admitted was mostly lies and clever editing?
I know many military people who have money...but they CHOOSE to be in the military, because they want to serve their country. Oh, and the link provided by the person who stated that Moore can't count (not surprising...since he would use a mother's grief for her son as a prop), go to it. It's correct.

Yes, Michael Moore always twists facts and manipulates his audience. Unfortunately, he's a great filmmaker, and knows how to play on people's emotions. Sometimes his methods break the rules you're supposed to follow while making a documentary.

However, using numbers and percentages for enlistment doesn't really refute that part of the movie. The point of that scene was to hold accountable the people who made the decision that we should go to war. He was only asking that if these people feel strongly enough about the cause to send other people's kids to Iraq, shouldn't they send their own kids? The funny thing is the one congressman he cuts away from before he can answer actually did have family members (not sure, i think it was his son) fighting over there. But, of course, he cut away at the right moment to get a laugh, and to give the false impression that this congressman was a jerk.

(One of the easiest ways to expose a hypocrite is to involve their children. Sometimes it's a cheap shot, other times it's exactly what the situation calls for.)

Why should someone who grew up in a life of privilege (like most Senator's/Congressman's kids) join the military? It doesn't pay well. You can get much safer and more profitable jobs by going corporate. Now, there are a couple children of Congressmen currently serving, but I don't know who they are or which states they represent.

But you also must remember this:
There are 300 million Americans.
There are about 3 million military

That's 1 percent of the total population serving to protect us all.

So, if you figure there are what, 535 people in Congress (100 in Senate, 435 in House). Say they have 2 kids each, so you're talking 1070 children, and 1% is what, 11 people? Now, I know it's convoluted logic, but I think people need to think things through before they just make statements/ask leading questions like that.

I don't think you have your "facts" straight. There are plenty of "lower/middle class" people (if that's what you think of them) in the war because they believe it is the right thing to do, plenty more who joined up for the opportunities and benefits offered by military service, and some who thought they could get these benefits without ever having to see action. There are also plenty of politicians kids and others "at the top of the ladder" who are serving at great personal risk. Where do you fit in?

Maybe because the lower and middle class are more patriotic and thank God, someone has the guts to defend this country.

Now I ask, Why aren't the pukes with boom box cars and sport bikes enlisting? They are brave to run their mouths, but not brave enough to put their butts on the line. Heck, most of them couldn't handle the military and training.

You know that it is generally considered ill form to make up information and then present them like they are facts. Do some research, find me one solid piece of quantitative datum. That supports your assertion that politicians kids don't enlist. Then we can talk about that subject. Until then you are presuming facts not equally agreed upon. Such a discussion is futile.

When are people going to stop believing what
they see in the movies? Dumbo was a movie, do you believe it? How about the Bird Man of Alcatraz? The guy never studied one bird while
in that jail, yet it was presented as fact. I guess
the Bird Man of Leavenworth wouldn't have sold..

If their kids do enlist, it is to be sure they will be posted in a safe place. Some may enlist so they can run for office in the future, but they will not hit the dirt running.

the military is the way to go. because they cannot fire you cause you belong to them and get great meals and some good money.
plus you dont have to pay for anything. all your medical is paid. just enjoy the benefits.

i'll assure that all enlistees are treated the same in all branches regardless of who they are.
take it from me i have been there for 4 years.
